Purée stage vs soft food stage? (Plus an NSV)
Ok so today makes 4 weeks since surgery. That means I get to move from purées to soft foods. I don't see a difference in the two stages! I could already have mashed potatoes and puddings and eggs in the purée stage, I don't see anything different being added for the soft food stage. Did any of y'all have a purée stage and a soft food stage? If so, what was the difference between the two.
My NSV today was I went to the bathroom and pulled my shorts (blue jean) down without unbuttoning/unzipping them! I got these shorts at the beginning of the summer and they were tight. Not like I can't fit into them tight, but tight enough that it gave me the "muffin top". Now they are loose, but I'm hoping they will last until the end of summer.
similar stages...purred for me required it be put into a blender. soft food was moist food. a scrambled egg is soft food, after it goes into a blender it's pureed. I took advantage by adding things like juicy chicken, avocado, and taco meat w/sour cream.
For me the difference was that I had to puree things with a food processor in pureed stage and in soft foods I could eat stuff that was soft naturally. So I could eat fresh mozzarella and tilapia without needing to process them.
Yum.

This is one of those things that's dependent on your surgeon's plan. And what is in the smoothie!

For me on the puree stage, almost everything had to be pureed. In a blender or food processor with some sort of liquid. The only exceptions were poached eggs, refried beans, yogurt, and cottage cheese. I wasn't allowed anything that wasn't a high protein food.
At the soft foods stage, I didn't have to puree foods any more, but they still had to be soft enough that I could easily cut them with a fork. I was allowed to add in some green veggies and small amounts of fruit (not allowed before because they are not high protein). I still was not allowed high carb food like potatoes, sweet potatoes, or grains.
Congrats on NSV I've been having fun closet shopping too!
My soft stage is really about training me to use my mouth to digest my food. The nut gives a list but my surgeon advised I eat healthy foods other than the obvious - crunchy veggies, overly fibrous stuff and bread rice etc. He just wants me to eat like 2tsp to 2tbsp and stop, learn, etc....probably more liberal but emphasis on volume. However it's easier to stick to hummus, tuna, cottage cheese, etc. My new tummy is so sensitive and I guess I don't have the full nerve response for two more weeks. It's so surreal all the time though.
