4 weeks post op and I have got the blues
VSG 8/21, regretting this decision. Feel like I will never be able to eat normal. Granted I knew I wouldn't be able to eat bad things but the feeling of the food going down sucks. One bite, chewed until its minced, will this be forever? I cook dinner for my family and can't eat anything I make. It is depressing. Knowing this cannot be undone makes me regret my decision every day.
If you spend some time on here, you will quickly see this is a very temporary phase. In fact, in 2-3 years you will wish you could go back to these days. Of courses you will be able to eat more once your sleeve "matures". Check out the daily "what are you eating" thread to see what a lot of people are eating further out.
Istead of regretting it, be grateful your sleeve is working the way it should, make a list of things you can't wait to do/enjoy down the road as you lose weight. It's all a matter of perspective at times.

Are you seeing a therapist? That has helped me a lot through the mental roller coaster of this process. I highly recommend that everyone add a therapist to their post-op team.
I also recommend that you start cooking things for your family that you can eat! As soon as I hit purees, I was cooking for my family and we were eating dinner together. I do make rice/pasta for them that I don't eat myself, and I can only have a bite or two of the non-protein side dish I make, but they eat what I cook and I cook what I eat!

Hang in there. It does get better. Your tummy is still healing, and you will feel more normal in your eating eventually. I'm about 17 months post op, and I feel pretty normal. I can eat almost anything, though I still avoid carbs due to cravings. I still use a small plate, but I fill it now! (smile) I eat dense protein first, and then fill up on healthy low-carb veggies. I actually do a lot more cooking and planning for my food now than I did before surgery. I make interesting foods that I enjoy, so I can say "That's ok that I don't eat that pizza I'll have some zucchini lasagna, or chicken in spicy peanut sauce, instead."
I always wish I could eat more volume of food, but I tell myself "Its ok, you can eat again in three hours!" And I like being healthy and wearing nice clothes, and having more energy. It is so worth it.
The recovery and getting used to the new tummy is hard. But know it does get better.

I felt the same way until I was about 6 weeks out. I was nauseated all the time, I had no energy, I was vomiting every single day. At first I just wanted a Cheerio! I was sick and tired of eating chicken all the time. Today I am 8 weeks out, so I'm not too far past the regretting phase. But, I'm feeling better, I'm eating lots more foods, and I've lost 40 lbs!! I know it is really, really hard, but I'm guessing you will start to feel better as your diet progresses. Feel free to chat with me if you would like. I'm just a month farther along than you.
