Melatonin

Does anyone know if you're allowed to take melatonin after surgery? I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I have really bad insomnia! I'm up all hours of the night. I'm still waiting to hear back from my doctor if I'm allowed to take it. Has anyone else taken it? If so, how did it make you feel the next morning? I've taken it many times before surgery and never had a problem, but I'm not sure if my new stomach will like it.

Nobody here has a medical degree so I would personally rather hear from my doctor not strangers on the internet.

Just wondering if anyone else was cleared to take it and had any adverse side effects. I'm not going to take it without my doctors clearance.

I do remember taking it after surgery. Not sure how long after, but I believe it as less than a month. As long as the pill wasn't larger than the size of an m&m it was fine. I had taken it before my VSG and didn't feel any differently taking it post-op. Hope that helps:)

That is good. You asked though if you are allowed ot take it. So that to me meant you wanted the okay from someone to take it.

I took 5HTP for a month or so due to insomnia.  But that was maybe 3-4 months post-op.  I slept like crap right after surgery, so I feel your pain :(

My surgeon made me stop before surgery due to the increase risk of bleeding.  I am about 9 months out and had to start taking it again.  I am having no problems with it.
