Eating seems to make me lose more

My surgeon instructed me to not eat if I don't feel hungry but the truth is I rarely feel hungry. I'm 4 1/2 months post op and I eat very  little throughout the day, maybe 400-500 calories, except occasionally, when I feel rare hunger and eat around 800 calories. It seems that those are the times I lose more. Has anyone else experienced this?

That seems like poor instructions considering part of the surgery is that it decreases our gherlin production!  I eat on a schedule and weigh out everything I eat to make sure that I'm getting the right amount.  I pretty much never feel hungry, except when I'm running in the morning before I've eaten, so if I only ate when hungry, I'd be eating about 200-300 calories a day.

I'd be in trouble if I only ate when I felt hungry. I might feel hungry once a week! My doctor and nutritionist told me to not go more than 4 hours without eating if I was awake. I was instructed to eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day, 90 grams of protein a day, no more than 50 grams of carbs, and 850 max calories a day. I schedule all of my meals.

Yeah, I agree, that doesn't seem right.  I rarely feel hungry, and when I do feel hungry it seems that I'm actually thirsty.  I just had my 3 month post op visit and my surgeon said to eat three "solid" meals a day, even if I can only eat a few bites, and then drink protein drinks between meals and before bed.  He said that the protein consistently throughout the day helps keep the metabolism in "hyper" mode during the first 6 months of rapid weight loss.  I have noticed that if I eat three meals and drink 3 protein drinks I tend to lose more.  Of course, my weight loss is also really related to my monthly cycle and my hormones.  I go 2 weeks out of every month where I hardly lose at all.  But, I've lost 60 lbs in 3 months, so I'm not complaining!  Good luck!
