Thanksgiving advice?

I've always loved turkey but I still have problems eating chicken so I'm afraid the turkey won't go down easily either. I'm almost 5 months post op and usually do pretty well. Last night I ordered a grilled hamburger, I only eat the meat and cheese, and, after eating 3 bites, 30 minutes later was throwing it up. This hasn't happened in over a month so I don't know why I threw up, but now I'm afraid I won't be able to eat the turkey on Thanksgiving. What do some of you do for holiday meals? I'm glad I can't eat too much but I would like some turkey and vegetables. Anything you can recommend to make the turkey go down easy?

Dark meat seems to be more tender to me, so I'd go with that. maybe shred it and put a little gravy or pan juice on it to make it super moist.

I find hamburger meat hard to digest even almost three years out - it never sits well with me and I always regret eating them afterwards.  Use some gravy to moisten the turkey and eat not too much and see how it is agreeing with you.

Turkey with a little gravy. That is what I ate last Thanksgiving when I was only a month post op. I still plan to eat the same thing this year, except I will be able to eat my veggies. Once I eat those 2 things if I am not stuffed, I will try a little dressing. Since I have not eat any bread since my surgery, I am not sure how dressing will sit in stomach.  I also don't like to eat beef at all. I am the same way, it just doesn't sit well on my stomach.

Two things - just give it a shot.  If you can eat it, fine, if not, that's fine too.  The world will not stop spinning if you're unable to eat turkey this T'giving.  You have a new normal and part of that is going to have to be not being so wrapped up in being "able" to eat something.

Have a GREAT holiday!  Stay on plan and your plan will work for you!

Especially since you're still sensitive to chicken - avoid the breast meat.  The dryness is hard to get down and it sits in your stomach like a rock.  Instead, go for some thigh and cover with gravy (gravy is key).  If you're going to finish anything (granted you tolerate it) - it's going to be that turkey serving.  Save some room for a bite of everything else on your plate to taste...even the dressing.  You don't have enough room to go crazy - so enjoy it all a taste at a time, and you won't feel at all deprived.

I'll be sticking to dark meat with a bit of gravy and then a bite of each of the sides I want.  Small bites with lots of chewing.
