Question about carbs
When I saw my Nut a few weeks ago, she cleared me for "all foods". We went over what I'm eating and she wanted me to start adding in fruits and veggies since I'm able to eat 3-4 oz of protein at meal time.
How do you do that without blowing up the carb intake? I feel my weight loss is better when consuming fewer carbs. But I get that she wants me to learn to eat normal - balanced - meals. Is this something I can do and keep carbs down?
Curious how others have handled this. Thanks!
I eat like a "normal" person and have mostly proteins first, then veges, then fruits. I eat a very small amount of protein granola in my greek yogurts, eat a couple of whole grain crackers with cheese and a few grapes, apples w/peanut butter etc. I do not eat pasta and regular bread of any type and of course no potato chips etc. I feel much better consuming carbs. Maybe I will lose slower but that's ok with me.
My meals are 3 ounces of protein and then an ounce of veggies. I'll have a bite of fruit every so often, but it's literally one single bite. (The exception is bananas on race day.) I mainly eat protein.

During weight loss, I limited carbs to about 25g per day. My meals consisted of 3 to 4 ounces of dense protein and all the low-carb veggies I could eat. I'd occasionally have fruit - blueberries and strawberries as they weren't too high in carbs.
When I got to maintenance, I increased it to 40g per day - just because I was eating more calories and proportionally more carbs. More recently, I've added in a serving of bread or sweet potatoes, or winter squash occasionally, and I seem to be fine with it. I haven't had trouble with cravings so far.
But carbs do scare me. If anything can throw me off plan, it would be the carb cravings.
best of luck,
Carol

While in weight loss mode I never served myself carbs on purpose. But as carbs really are everywhere I got 'incidental' carbs with my meals. Even a protein shake has some carbs. I did eat fruit occasionally and a piece of pumpernickle now and then. But it was definitely protein first, veggies second and not much room for anything else. Now I eat pretty much everything still protein forward, and still not making any carb heavy things on purpose but I will have a fry now and then and I don't peel the crust off the quiche anymore...so far so good!
