When will this end?

I had my surgery 7 days ago and it's been hell since day 2.  I'm throwing up almost every day and I'm nauseous pretty much 24/7.  I don't have a taste for anything and every day it seems harder to find something I can get down and keep down.  I have to take about 12 pills a day for another reason and every day it gets harder to swallow them and keep them down.  I feel like instead of recovering things are getting harder and I can't help but think I've made a big mistake.  Anybody else experience anything similar?  How long before you started to feel normal?  Thanks guys.

Yes, I spoke to his colleague and he didn't seem concerned.   I'm waiting on a call back from my actual surgeon.

If you don't hear back super soon, I suggest going to ER.  Preferably the one that's at the hospital where your surgeon is located, otherwise your nearest ER.

do you react to anesthesia?  I would have felt like this except for antinausea meds.

In the past I've had no problems with anesthesia.   I've been using the anti nausea sticker you put behind your ear that my dr gave me.

Please keep responding!

dehydration can make you wicked nauseated and it can also be life threatening. Were I you,I would insist withmy surgeon that he bring me in. For IV fluids. You will likely not be able to drink enough at is point to get over the dehydration.

do not play around with this. Dehydration is the number one problem for new post ops. If he refuses to send you,go. To the emergency room anyway. They. Have to see you of you show up. They will do lab work that will show if you are dehydrated and will see the need for IV fluids.

I don't want to scare you but you sound exactly like me and I ended up back in the hospital with a life threatening case of aspiration pneumonia. I was having reflux in my sleep and at some point I aspirated on acid. I had none of the "typical" pneumonia symptoms but when I got to the ER my lungs were failing. I had been dehydrated and got fluids at my doctor's office a couple days before which only made the fluid retention in my lungs worse. Take this seriously and go to the ER if you can't get face time with your doc and have them check your O2 sats.

At best, it could be as simple as dehydration.  Nausea is a very popular symptom.  Remember that from the moment they remove the IV from your arm, you are supposed to have 64oz of fluids every day...no ifs, ands, or butts.

Call the doc ASAP about this, for it could be something very bad going on inside.

not normal. keep after surgeon.  ask for anti nausea drugs to start. you could get dehydrated and end up in hospital. be assertive with surgeon.   diane
