Hey Skinny!

Even though it happens often, I am still mostly oblivious that someone is addressing me when I hear, "Hey, Skinny!" It just happened again and I laughed saying I didn't think they were talking to ME.
I remember when I first started the pre-diet, one of my co-workers who I had confided in started calling me, "Slim" constantly and I told her I didn't like it. She was always thin and did not understand that it stung because I was soooo not slim. She truly did not understand that it hurt me and continued calling me "Slim" until she left for a new job. She never saw my big weight loss in person but cheered on the first 25 pounds. It used to irritate me, but I realize that when people call me skinny, slim or say I'm melting, disappearing..., it doesn't sting. It can be embarrassing, especially when they stare at my body, but I am learning to roll with it.
Heh. When someone says I'm skinny, I always reply with "please, skinnier, not skinny yet!" :P

This one bugs me too. It's irritating to be called something that you know yourself to be most certainly NOT. And regardless of how much weight I lose, I think calling attention to my figure, weight, shape, etc., is just rude. I wouldn't say, "Hey four-eyes!" or "Hey big ears!" or "How's it going, Legs?" I mean... who DOES that? What adult does that? I dunno. Maybe it's just a very sore point for me, but boy, it's rude as all get out in my books.
When people do it to me, as they sometimes do now that I've lost so much, I retort with, "No. Most definitely not. Not at all." Totally deadpan. It shuts them up and usually they do not repeat it. Good thing too!
