I am scheduled for the 26th and met with my surgeon today and am currently waiting to do the pre admissions testing at the hospital. I need clearance for surgery from a pcp but I don't have HAVE a pcp! I haven't had one since my pediatrician, so almost ten years....The only doc I've seen consistently is my gyn and he refused to do it....what do I do? Help!!!

You refuse to return to the GYN? Unfortunately, it's a necessary annual appointment for us gals, so just do it!

As for the PCP approval, ask your surgeon for someone whom he/she works with. If the surgeon has a relationship with a general doc that he works with all of the time, you shouldn't have any trouble getting in and getting what you need. If the surgeon has you on his schedule already, he will have an interest in getting this appointment completed, too. Good luck.

I think she meant the  gyno refused to give her the clearance.

Oh, I'm so sorry! Well that's good that you see the GYN! LOL! Necessary evil!
Best wishes in getting your appointment and clearance all set!

Good luck!

Sounds like you probably just have to bite the bullet and go find a PCP.  If you haven't seen one in 10 years then you really should just get a physical anyway.  They'll do some labs, which hopefully you can just get forwarded to your surgeon and maybe they won't have to take as many on their own?

Get a list of PCPs in your area from your insurance company.  Start calling them and saying, "I don't have a PCP currently, but I need to get clearance for WLS.  Are you accepting new patients and can you get me in before the 26th?"

But.. it seems like you're cutting things pretty closely, and I would be amazed if a PCP you'd never seen before would give you clearance so quickly.  You might need to reschedule your surgery to get this taken care of.

Ask your surgeon to recommend a PCP who is WLS friendly. Get a few options from him and call and see who can see you the soonest.

Agreed. Ask your surgeon. Honestly. This all should have been taken care of prior to getting this close. You may need a pulmonary and cardiac clearance.  I don't know why your surgeon pushed you through like this.

sorry to say,I think you are going to have to reschedule your surgery. That is less than 10 days away and I can't see any new PCP,who has absolutely no history with you, agreeing to refer your for Wls after seeing you one time.

i also can't see you getting a new patient appointment. With a doctor in less than 10 days.

How is it possible that you haven't know you were going to need this clearance before less than 10 days till your surgery date
