Pureed foods...Yuck :-(

My doctor told me to start pureed foods for one meal a day starting today, 2 weeks post-op. She wanted me to puree chicken. So I took out my new immersion blender that I bought pre-op just for this occasion. Well, I did not care for it at all. I felt like I was eating cat food (Not that I have ever tasted cat food).

How long did some of you have to puree your meat until you could eat small pieces of chicken?

I personally could not stand the taste of pureed meat so during my pureed stage (about 1.5 weeks) I ate greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and then I also incorporated scrambled eggs and ground turkey with spaghetti sauce right before I moved into my soft food stage.

All of these sound really yummy! I will make sure once I have surgery and hit this stage to check this again to remind me! Did you male things ahead of time or as you progressed to purees?

I feel your pain. What I've done so far is cook my chicken in broth so it becomes supper tender and then chew very well. It's been working for me thus far. Tried the same with a turkey meatball and that did not go down as well. But sleevie seems to agree with soft chicken. I also got some salmon filles I plan on poaching but I haven't done it yet. Hope you find somethings you like soon!

It sounds like these are soft foods, not pureed foods.  It's not a good idea to advance your post-op diet early, even if you think it's "fine" and that it makes your sleeve happy.  Your nerves were severed and your stomach is healing from major surgery - you need to stick to your surgeon's plan.

I asked my surgeon and nutritionist questions regarding the preparation and consistency of the food I have been eating. And while the meatball may not have been approved,  I am on target regarding my diet. Thanks for the concern.

You're welcome!  It's great that you've gotten your surgeon's go-ahead to advance your diet early.

I eat beans, eggs, ricotta bake, oatmeal, pudding, and protein shakes. I'm a picky eater so I have to eat what I can. I haven't tried steaming veggies because I'm not sure if I could get them soft enough.
