Has anyone been able to find a good acid blocker that really works?  It is my understanding that when we feel the hunger sensation it is really an acid issue.  I have tried zantac and prilosec and neither seem to do the trick.

Neither of those worked for me and to add insult to injury, I was allergic to both :-(  Prescription Protonix 40mg has been my lifesaver.

Occasionally I will still get some breakthrough acid and have to pop a couple Tums.  But Protonix is my miracle drug.

I'm on Protonix 40mg as well (have to take it for the first 2 months after surgery). I left the hospital with the prescription. I have not had any big problems with acid so far. We will see what happens in about 2 weeks.

Nexium is also OTC and what I've had good luck with.  You might need a prescription for Protonix, though!

Hi - I am a couple days short of 1 yr out and Surgeon put me on Protonix 40mg again a couple weeks ago. The over the counter worked at 1st, but not now. Hope it gets better for you soon!

I was taking protonix twice a day pre-op and I still take it post op. My gastroenterologist was hoping I wouldn't need it once my weight came off but so far I still need it at least once and usually twice a day.
