Are you taking the pills with food?

Gwen brings up a good question. I am pre-op & have been advised the multi-vitamin, calcium citrate & B vitamins need to be chewable.

So how are regular meds taken? Is this reaction typical?

Vites only need to be chewable for the first 3-6 months according to the ASMBS.  There's really no reason that we can't swallow pills.

Your surgeon might want you to have liquid versions for a few weeks and that's something worth asking about.

If a liquid med isn't necessary, try a pill splitter. Most grocery stores carry them in the pharma section & they are very inexpensive. At first, I had trouble swallowing even the citrical petites & then my dr suggested splitting them.

Don't take them all together, and do take them with food in your stomach. Milk, smoothie, pudding, etc is a great choice; will help neutralize the dissolving pills. I take two, wait 30-60 minutes and take two more. Etc.

I've been fat, and I've been thin - and thin is better.

I have to take everything with food or immediately after eating with a tiny sip of water.  If not - instant nausea and even vomiting.
