Advice/Answers please: I'm 5'5 and my goal weight is 125

I'm a woman around 156 now. I'm going through that awkward phase where almost nothing I own fits me well. I wear 10s comfortably and 12s I can also wear but they're looking ill fitting. I need to go shopping for work clothing, and am trying to figure out how much smaller I should expect to get. (I'm at 6 months post-op.)

If you are around my height and close to my goal weight, can you give me a sense of what size you are? I'm wondering if I'll land around a 6 (and if so, I will feel comfortable buying more than two pairs of pants at an 8 knowing I can have them altered.)

I realize everyone has a different shape, but your answers will help me a bit.

Thanks!

A huge mistake I made was buying a ton of size 12, then 10, then 8, then 6 size clothes. I kept thinking "I'm sure I won't get smaller than this." Definitely do not spend too much right now at 6 months post op - you will get smaller if you keep to your plan!! I have an updated pic on my profile. I'm 5' 6" and 136 lbs if that helps.

I'm also, 5'5", 163 lbs & am wearing sizes 12-14 or a large in tops. I have never, even when I weighed 125lbs (for about 10 minutes) worn a size 10.

Don't spend too much, dress for now and enjoy the new you! I also started working again, in late August & desperately needed clothes. I shopped at places like Steinmart, Marshall's, TJ Maxx & Burlington. My work wardrobe is very basic but I'm able to mix things up for very different looks. It consists of 3 prs of inexpensive slacks (brown, black & navy), a black & a tan cardigan-type jacket, 4-5 tunic style printed tops & a printed turtle neck & a black turtleneck. The pants are now swimming on me & I plan on either having them altered or bringing them into a consignment store. The tops should last me for some time. Last week I splurged & bought boots, a skirt, & a very stylish jacket with leather-like trim. For the first time in many, many years, I'm enjoying getting dressed for work and I'm not breaking the bank.

I'm 5'3 and I weigh 181. My goal weight is 140. I'm comfortably in a size 10. I did buy a pair of jeggins that was a size 8. My 12's just don't fit right. I love love love shopping at second hand stores. I find some amazing clothes and they're cheap!! I only buy some shirts, panties and bras NEW. I think my bottom line size will be a 6.

I'm 5' 4" and currently weight 133.6 lbs. My 3's and 4's (my smallest size ever, even when I weighed 123 lbs.) are starting to get loose. I know part of that is vanity sizing (today's 4 isn't what a size 4 was even 8 years ago). I wish I would have waited a little longer before buying a bunch of new clothes - I will have to have them taken in now and have only worn some of them once! I have a muscular build so have always weighed way more then what I look like I weigh. Most people think I weigh around 110-115 lbs. now even though I am 133.6. Things are distributed way differently this time around too. I am 50 and my arms, legs and shoulders and quite thin - boney even. I have extra skin that drapes some on my legs, arms, butt and lower belly. I lost my hips and butt - almost all pants are baggy in the hip/upper leg area.

I would shop the re-sale/Thrift stores to get you by for now and once you hit goal then go on a shopping spree (it is sooooo much fun!)

Way too many variables to predict where you'll end up! But just for fun, I'll give you my stats. I'm 5'2" and 115 pounds and I wear a size 2. So with your extra 3" of height,if you take your weight down to 125, I'm betting you'll end up in a similar clothing size.

they say 10lbs equals a size - which when I was a 14 was not true - i was a 14 for about 30 lbs of weight loss...but as i got smaller, it became more true.  At 5'0" tall and 121-125 lbs I wear a 4 to a 6 in pants and in a nice dress an 8 (I am big  chested).  Any time I buy a 4, I am convinced it is mislabeled and I could not possibly really fit into a 4.  Also every time I hold them up I think there's no way they're ever going to fit.

I'm 5'5" with a goal weight of 130, currently at 164. It seems to me that the smaller sizes go, the more random the sizing is. I have tops in sizes XS-XL that all fit, averaging a M-L. Pants are even more random -- for awhile I had pants in sizes 4-14 that fit at the same time, currently averaging about an 8.

With previous weight loss attempts, I made major use of belts to extend the life of my pants. But I'm well below the lowest I ever got before now, and the problem isn't the waist so much as the legs and butt getting saggy. Goodwill has become my best friend. I've probably turned over my entire wardrobe 3 or 4 times in the last year.

I am 5'1 and I weigh 122.  I wear a size 2 or sometimes a 4.  I would shop at cheap places because you will be shocked at how fast you move through sizes.  I had some things that I literally wore twice and then they look ridiculous on me.
