Question for the Formerly Apple Shaped

Hiya. Hope you're all well and on track today. Anyway, getting to the point, my body is currently apple shaped and has been for a long time. I carry a good portion of my excess weight on my belly and it seems like that area is where I'm losing from the slowest. (Or maybe I'm just being impatient.) I'm curious how long it took other apple body shaped people to see a reduction in their belly area.

I had the same experience.  The belly was the last to go!  Also, when I got to goal (180), I still had a belly, and decided I'd keep losing until the belly was gone.  I lost another 20 pounds, and STILL had a belly.  When I talked to a plastic surgeon, he told me that my belly at that point was all excess skin.  I had a fleur-de-lis tummy tuck and he removed 5 pounds of excess skin from my belly!  Now my belly is flat, like it was when I was 14!  Its wonderful.

So be encouraged.  You'll get there.  But it will take some time.

best wishes,

Carol

There was a thread about belly fat a while back. It seems that no matter whether you were an "apple" or a "pear" at your high weight, the belly fat is the last to go.

I was a "pear," yet after surgery I began losing from the areas I thought would be the most stubborn -- thighs, rear, hips. Now I'm more of an "apple," albeit a slimmer version of an apple -- more like a plum.

The point is that no matter what our original shape, we generally turn into apples anyway. That belly fat just loves to hang in there.

Belly will be the last to go - I'm shaped this way too.  It will the first area where you put weight back on and it will be the last place where you lose.

It was frustrating because people were coming on here and bragging about the tiny sizes they were wearing and I weighed a LOT less than them...and I was still wearing bigger sizes.  Super pissed me off - lol!  But eventually my waist/tummy area reduced to the point where I am wearing pretty small sizes too.

However, even as a fit, thin teenager I never had a tiny waist.  My shape was always more athletic/boxy.  If that's your situation just know that the shape you were born with is NOT going to change even when you hit goal weight.  You won't magically have a tiny waist if you never had one to start with when you were young and thin.

Hope that makes sense!

I also realized a drop in sizes AFTER I got to maintenance and had maintained for about 6-9 months.  I actually dropped an entire pant size and stayed the exact same weight.  Things really do change and shift around during that first 12 months of maintenance.  No one ever believes that to be true - but it happens!

Oh do I ever feel your pain!  I actually would be happy if I didn't lose any weight in my legs or arms BUT...my body did not agree and I lost much of my weight in the 1st month in my arms and legs.  I did lose SOME in my belly (pants are much looser) but I sure would have liked to have lost all almost 40 lbs of it from my tummy!!!

Same for me. I noticed first in the face. The problem with the belly area for us apples is that even when we lose 10%, since we carry so much in the belly it is nearly the exact same looking/shape just a tad smaller. So it doesn't look like we have lost anything. I would have to check my blog, but I am pretty darn sure I had to lose 50 pounds to even drop a size in the early days. Now at my current size, it takes about 20 to drop a size (or grow out of it). I know for sure that my belly was significantly gone within 6 months... took 8 to get to goal. Took surgury to make it flat.
