Do you feel after VSG, we are better with NO/low Carb or just sticking with high protein foods. For example, brown rice, and beans? Or only meat, eggs, and cheese?

A common plan on the boards is 800 calories and 40g or less of carbs. My weight loss phase was much higher in carb, about 100 net. It is a very personal path that one travels in that regard. At the time I was struggling with low blood sugar, so lots of snacks and heavier on the carbs. Nowawdays, I do a lot less carbs since my blood sugar levels have been creeping up and the low episodes are rare now.

I'm very carb sensitive so I have to keep my carbs under 20 g a day or I stall out. The best plan is a combination of hi protein, low carb and moderate healthy fats. That seems to be the key to good weight loss and maintenance.

No carb is pretty much impossible, in the real world. It's hard not to let some carbs in.

There are a lot of definitions for what low carb is, as far as the number of grams go. But really, high protein will be low carb for most of us. You just don't eat enough calories to have a lot of protein, some fats, AND have a substantial number of carbs.

I have always maximized my protein, and have a calorie limit. If I am doing those things well, carbs are kept pretty low, and I don't worry about them.

It depends how sensitive you are to carbs.  When I was in weight loss I kept the carbs below 25 grams per day, most days.  This means that the only carbs I had were from dairy and low carb veggies.  This worked well for me.  I am very sensitive to carbs and I have to be careful not to awaken the carb monster which gives me huge cravings, and makes the diet impossible.

I'd suggest cutting way back on carbs and then see how many you can eat without cravings.  Then you can set your own level.

Some people can eat brown rice and beans and do fine, but it didn't work for me.

best of luck,

Carol
