Peanut Butter?!?

How soon after VSG surgery did everyone start eating creamy peanut butter? I am almost 6 weeks out and I am craving it...not to mention it also has protein in it.

Peanut butter is best avoided because it has a very low protein-to-calories ratio, and it's higher in calories than many realize. 1 tablespoon is about 100 calories and only 3.5g protein; we should be shooting for foods with at least 10g protein per 100 calories. Plus it's WAY too easy to eat more than 1T!

If you really want peanut butter, I'd suggest getting some PB2 peanut butter powder and adding it into a protein shake.

Aww man I love peanut butter and I have eaten it a few times but I guess I won't anymore. I am going to try the PB2 protein powder that sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

I'm 3 months out and I haven't eaten any.. I consider it more of a "once I hit maintenance" food.

It does have some protein but the carb to protein ratio and the calories just don't make it seem like a wise choice for me at this time.

I looked on my paperwork and it's not listed.. call you call your dietitian to ask?

My advice would be "don't go there!".  I thought I could handle it, but one little spoonful here and there and poof - you've blown half your daily calorie allowance.  My daughter has to keep it in her bedroom because I can't have it in the kitchen. Seriously...I'm that bad. :)

It's probably one of the worst foods you can eat at this point.   I don't eat it even now because it's such a trigger for me.  A serving size is 2 tablespoons which is not going to satiate you.  There are more carb grams than protein grams.  Never a good idea.

Looking it up on My Fitness Pal, here are the stats:

You can take the PB2 and stir water into it and make it into a peanut buttery paste... it actually tasted pretty good when I did it...

Jiffy has a powder peanut butter also, it has a few less calories than the PB2
