Hi All,

i have taken the roundabout way to get here. I was originally scheduled to be sleeved in February of this year. On January 29th I went for my final Pre Op meeting with the surgeon. I had a bit of a stomach ache and let her know. She took one look at me and made one of her PA's walk me down to the ER.

3 hours later I am in emergency surgery for a perforated colon with sepsis caused by diverticulitis and receive a brand new temporary colostomy, as well as a 10 day hospital stay with 7 days of it in the ICU. I have now healed up from the surgery and am on the schedule for the sleeve in late June provided all my insurance papers go through.

Once I lose enough weight from the sleeve I will be able to have my colostomy reversed.

Has anyone here had a colostomy? My surgeon says she has done a few, and the surgeon placed my colostomy knowing that I would be having the sleeve and they will still be able to go in laparoscopically I am told.

Anyway here I am.

Howie

Goodness.  You have been through quite an ordeal.  I hope everything works out.

I did not have a colostomy, but I had a colectomy to remove part of my colon when I was diagnosed with colon cancer.  Having the sleeve hasn't caused any complications or problems.  I do take fiber supplements and Miralax to keep everything moving.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing
