What a difference a year makes

So it has officially been 1 year since I embarked on my journey and I am so happy.

1 year ago I was visiting the "Weight Loss Institute of Arizona" to learn about weight loss surgery. I was terrified and excited. They told me I would have to get my BMI down to a 50 before having surgery. At the time my BMI was 67! I thought it was over right then and there. I thought I was just going to die young and overweight because I was even too fat for weight loss surgery. It was a crushing blow, but instead of drowning my sorrows in food, like I normally would have done, I downloaded my fitness pal and decided to give it a go.

At first I was limiting myself to 1500 calories a day, and believe me, that was a HUGE cut to my calories. About a month later my mom saw an ad on facebook of all places for the Banner Gateway Weight loss Center. I figured I would give it one more try, get one more opinion, and boy am I glad I did.

I went and saw Dr. P and he immediately put me on a protein and veggies only diet. I was eating no more than 1000 calories a day and only drinking water. Dr. P told me this diet would have me dropping the weight fast, and I thought he was full of it. I went home and my husband and I threw out pretty much every piece of food we had in the house and we went shopping. It was weird buying just veggies, not going down any of the aisles at the store, but I was excited.

Now I am not going to sit here and say it was easy peasy, it was hard as hell. Pizza was my favorite meal and I had to cut it out completely. I had people always telling me "just have a little" "one tiny bite" but I have held strong. I got through Halloween with no candy, Thanksgiving with no pie, Christmas with no cookies, and yes it was hard, really hard, but not as hard as being 33 years old and 446 pounds.

Today I am 233lbs and I am just blown away. In one year I lost almost 213 pounds, and that isn't even from my highest. 446 was just the first weight my scale actually would measure, I was more than that for about a month. I lost about 125 pre-op thanks to my change in diet, and the rest post-op. It has been wonderful!

So here I am, 233 pounds, 6 months post op, and loving it. A BMI of 36.5! from 67!! I had my struggles, and an intense case of buyers remorse after the fact, but now I can truly say what the others say "I wish I had done it sooner".

If you have a high start weight and feel like you will never get there, you will! Granted I still have a ways to go, I am happy. I actually weigh less today than I did at 14! My bat wings are off the charts, my chest is flat and weird, my legs are like MC hammer pants made of skin, but I am happy.

Thank you to those of you who have supported me, and encouraged me, even through my sad posts and freak outs.
