Reached goal weight... now what?

I have reached my goal weight of 155 lb!!!! Now, I keep thinking... is this enough? Do I want to continue losing? I guess I kinda feel at a loss with how to eat... should I continue eating for weight loss mode... or eat a little more and do more maintenance?

This is a new phase that I don't quite know how to handle.

Congratulations, I would focus on maintenance once I reached my goal weight. When eating more just continue to make sure that's it's still healthy!...You can't go wrong!

Congratulations on reaching goal!  155 is excellent!  Congratulations.

For me, the transition to maintenance was confusing.  I tried a few different strategies before settling into the one I use now.

I basically decided to keep my meals the same as they were in weight loss, and add a 4th meal rather than adding calories to my existing three meals per day (weight loss mode).  This worked better for me.  My meals are 250 to 350 calorie each, so weight loss is about 900 calories per day.  Maintenance is about 1200.  This gives me a little extra for "cheating" occasionally, as I suspect I burn about 1400 to 1500 calories per day.

I weigh myself daily and I set an upper limit.  When I hit that limit, I cut back to three meals per day until my weight comes down again.  I give myself a three to 5 pound range before starting weight loss again.

I've been maintaining for over 2 years and it is working for me.  I'm sure you will find a system that works for you, too.

congrats again.

This is a great response! Actually makes sense. So basically continue eating as doing and add in an extra snack or something like that. Ok. I am going to try this. I guess it won't be bad if I happen to lose a little more while I try to figure this out. Thanks!

I would keep doing what you are doing and lose more. Many people have a bit of bounce back weight and that would help off-set that. You may feel even better if you lose a little more. As I get older, less weight feels better on my joints, especially when I exercise.

I second what Laura said. You should bet on 10 or 20 pounds creeping back on in the next year or two. It's not written in stone, but does happen to the vast majority of people. Losing 10 more pounds now will be a LOT easier than it will in 2 years.

I wish I had found this board during my losing phase Grim. I got to my goal weight of 178 and then caved in to my family, co-workers, friends who told me I was too skinny at 178! I should have held the course. I am not at 192. I need to get back to my comfy range of 184-188.
