frisco's box got me to thinking....

Yesterday I ended up sitting in the ER with my dad for somewhere between 5-6 hours. So luckily I had my 911 bag in my purse, so had the choice of nuts or a protein bar. So yay for having the right foods with me. I wish I would have had more because I missed breakfast and lunch and was starving by the time we got home, which is really bad thing to happen with acid issues. So I'm trying to figure out what I could put in frisco's box lol

But I had NO fluids. The soda machines aren't an option, I can't drink carbonation. I've tried it once 2 years out and it didn't stay down) We were at a doc appt and his bp dropped to 84/46.

So I usually have a bottle with me, but we weren't supposed to be gone long. Not sure what I could change except, NEVER leave home with a bottle lol

ideas?

Every ER I've been in has had a "comfort station" with a water/ice machine and glasses.  There are normally water bottles available in soda machines too - so you could buy one and refill it.  But, yeah, never leave home without a bottle!

I keep protein bars (Quest) and a tuna pouch and a fork in my "go bag."

I'm guessing your go bag also has a couple of passports, foreign currency and some spare mags?

Never saw or was told about a comfort station.  Never saw the bottled water in the machine either, though I could have missed it.  I carry water enhancers with me, sf koolaid, but I couldn't find a bottle lol

BOTTLE, NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!!!!

How about asking a nurse? Surely they have plastic cups for giving water to patients, I bet if you ask nicely (especially if you explain that you're at risk for dehydration and can't do carbonation) they can help you find something.

Hope your dad is OK!

They probably would have, but they were taking him (dad) for multiple tests and honestly I didn't want to bother them.. Which of course is stupid and I should have asked :)
