Unfreindly beef and fish - but I'll get there down the road right?

9 weeks out!

5 weeks  on soft food.

Everything is going well except fish- which surprises me and ground beef !

Can eat turkey and chicken well, which is great.

Does this sound like anyone else's experience? Just wondering?

Will take a break for a bit and try again.

I found I had to kept to softer, moister fish - tilapia was awesome for this.  Salmon could be overcooked at times.  (The only time I actually threw up post-op was when I ate some overcooked grilled salmon.  Now I'm more careful!)

I never had a problem with ground beef, but I kept it pretty wet to begin with - in sauce and such.

I have to be careful with chicken breast mainly.  If it's in pieces in sauce, it's not a problem, but if it's just a plain chicken breast?  I'll pass.  Chicken thighs are much happier.

Ground beef is hard for many. Remember, it's crappy meat they have to grind for even regular folks to eat. Get a piece of good, tender beef. Try tenderloin. Deli meats, particularly ham and chicken, go down well early.

I didn't even start this phase until 8 weeks, so it's still really early. Be patient.

I don't do plain hamburgers even 2 years out, must have melted cheese or mayo. Ground beef in sauces (speghetti, 98%fat free cream of mushroom soup) work pretty well. Or even adding it to refried fat free beans with sour cream, or chili, or cottage cheese and speghetti sauce topped with shred cheese..... But never, ever by itself.

I second the tilapia fish! Love it! Esp with a Parmesan cheese crust! Also shrimp seems to go down well.

Steak on the other hand.. It's always a hit or miss for me and I never know until the first bite if it will go down right.

Red meat is the hardest of meats to digest, so that is not too much of a surprise.  I did have fish that was well-cooked in broth.  Broth makes drier meats easier to eat.

I could not eat chicken breast and eggs for 2-3 months, but Harvey is pretty much the weirdest sleeve ever.  Though, the egg thing is more common than I thought.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Ground beef was an elusive challenge for me for a couple of years. It's ground, but not soft - just keep that in the back of your head.
