My BFF is having the sleeve! I have questions

my BFF is scheduled for the sleeve on Friday!  She is active and wants to go to the rodeo 5 days after surgery. What is the pain level?  When did you start moving around and doing "normal" activities?  We also have a cruise planned for 2 minths out. What should we expect?  Thanks!!!

Everyone's experience varies, but I had surgery on a Wed, came home Thurs, and drove my son to school Friday. I really didn't have much pain, just pressure from the gas. I was pretty tired during the 2 weeks of liquid but felt much better when I started soft foods. After 4 weeks I was back to work and at 2 months I feel fantastic. My energy level is increasing and as the weight comes off I can do so much more.

Rny-er here, but I went to a music festival about a week post op. I was fine, but it wiped me out. And I had to sit a lot. So as long as recovery goes well, I think it's doable, but I'd temper expectations about how much she'll be able to do. Also, I was still on liquids, and emailed the organizers about bringing in my own protein shakes. They said no problem as long as they were unopened. So I kept the email with me in case I needed it at the gate.

I was sleeved Wednesday, so today is day 5 post op. I felt like leaving the house for the first time today other than dog walks in my lounge clothes. I met my friends for coffee/tea and then walked through Whole Foods looking for 'interesting broths' - how exciting my life is! I found I was tired on what is normally a no effort 1/2 mile dog walk this morning. I'm alert, but wouldn't be sure about sitting in stands or walking around a venue all day. Just sitting at Starbucks for an hour, I found my incisions got a bit uncomfortable given their placement. I was happy to get home and change my pants and sit more reclined. I don't feel bad at all, but I'm not my normal self either.

I'm 7 days out from surgery and 5 days after surgery I was able to go the store, but it was tiring. My last 2 days have been the days where I feel the most like myself.

I agree with the others. Pain at 5 days was not an issue for me but I was very tired and getting used to sipping the liquids and protein drinks. I pretty much had to sip all the time at that point to get them in.

If your BFF feels like yippee kiokia 'ing 5 days out good on her.  She will need to be super organized with liquid protien and water for hydration plus keep busy all day long getting all that in. Just keep an eye on her and be prepared to leave early.

Have fun

If she feels up to it then she will be fine as long as she has water with her at all times.

As long as she doesn't push herself, she should be ok at the rodeo.  My energy level didn't really dip until after my first or second week after surgery.  The cruise at 2 months out is what would have been a little hard for me.  Not energy wise but more food-wise.  The abundance of food and emphasis on eating on a cruise would have been really hard on me so early out.  I would have been very tempted to eat things i shouldn't be eating and it would have been almost frustrating for me not to be able to eat much at all.

The best advice I could offer is for her to maybe sit out of the big group dinners if she doesn't feel comfortable. I would do better having a small bite to eat from the casual dining and then focusing on the activities instead. Good luck to you and your friend!

The pain won't be the problem, the tiredness would. After surgery I could barely stay awake for more than 3 hours at a time for the first week.
