Hello-

I'm having the sleeve done on 5/19. Work wants me to take a class where i would have to travel from Chicago to Atlanta on June 6-7 (about 2.5 weeks after surgery).

I just said no to going to the class...am I being a wimp or realistic?

Isn't July 6-7 about 7 weeks after your surgery? Unless you meant June. If you meant June 6-7, that is probably kind of soon.

I had my sleeve done on 2/1. I took 2.5 weeks off work, but honestly I could have gone back after a week and a half. We had a trade show scheduled for the end of February, which I was there for and had no issues. That included a 4 hour drive from LA to Vegas and back, plus getting the show set up and torn down. I was careful about lifting too much weight, but overall it was fine. Subsisted on protein shakes most of the time.

If it's July as posted, I think you'd be fine. If it's actually June, you probably made the right call!

Agree with the others - July would be fine. June - no way.

Everyone is different. Day 3 I was on 2 flights home from Mexico. I was salmon fishing on day 7. If I got anything I was allowed to rip its lips off to set the hook and then pass the rod to my brother in law. Day 8 I was back to work doing mostly light duty with no problems. I would have been fine. Not everyone is like me though. For some recovery can be hard. Don't beat yourself up for your decision if you would have been fine.

Like HFFM said, everyone's different. I was back to work after 4 days. At the 2 week mark I'd say I was pretty close to 100%.

I think you're being very reasonable. Sure there are some who ran a marathon only 3 days after surgery, but many more of us in a brain fog for several weeks. I took 2 months off work for my DS because I needed to be on my A-game physically and mentally at work.
