I want the VSG TRUTH about burping!!

I had RNY over 10 years ago. My daughter had VSG about 6 months ago...She is doing fine. She said there is a rumor going around a Facebook VSG page that some people can't burp post op. I know it can be true in RNY. I couldn't burp for maybe 6 months or 1 year...I can't remember now. I was so happy when I had my first burp post op...I was in Hog Heaven!! So is there anyone who has had the VSG who can not burp post op?? Also if you couldn't, how long before you could? Thanks for your input...Brian

Being able to burp was never an issue. However, burping early out hurt like a son of a *****!

I have never heard that rumour. Granted I will be 5 weeks post op on Wednesday, I wish I could stop burping as much as I am, but I hear its somewhat normal to burp a lot early out. I'm hoping it dies down eventually.

I had never heard that could happen with the RNY either, that would be awful.

Almost 6 months out here...never had a problem burping before, don't have any issues now. I haven't had excess burping but I do occasionally. I could always make myself burp (my mom was so proud lol) and just did...working fine!!

The Facebook groups are interesting to say the least. Never heard the rumor but I have no issue burping. Considering acid reflux is common with the sleeve I would imagine people end up burpin too much.

I can definitely burp.

I think I remember that, immediately post-op, there was a weird feeling in my stomach where it was like I wanted to burp but couldn't? But I'm sure I was able to burp before 6 months went by! Probably more like a week or two :)

My experience with the Facebook VSG groups was pretty horrible - lots of people enabling each other to eat whatever crap they wanted to.

Yes! For weeks post op I would get this weird sensation that was half need to burp and have nausea. It happened every time I drove of all things (maybe the bumping me around?). I would have to really force the burp out and I'd feel better. Sometimes it took me several minutes to pass.

No problem burping here! Maybe not as robust as they used to be, but no problem.
