My dad has been a huge support to me during and after my VSG. Well, through my whole life really! He's a very important person in my life and my son's.

He's thinking about having VSG. We've talked about it a lot, and I've told him every step I've been through. He will be covered by insurance, which is great. But he asked me if he is too old to have WLS. I was surprised because I don't think he's old! He is 69 years old, but an awesome 69. Is there anyone out there who has had WLS after the age of 65 (or 69)? How was recovery for you? Did you have any difficulties specific to your age?

I was 64 hypertensive, insulin dependent diabetic, and on high doses of narcotics for chronic joint pain when I had my surgery in October. Just 6 months later and I am off ALL medication, doing 5k on the treadmill at 3.5 miles an hour.

Best thing I have ever done for myself.

Thanks AggieMae! If my dad could get off some meds I'd be so thankful!

My friend had it at age 72. Some doctors just won't do people over 65 but you can find one who will. May have something to do with medicare. I was 58 and had easy surgery and recovery. My brother was 60 and same deal. He did well. Diane S

Thank you Diane! I am helping him research where to have it done, I will start with age limitations.
