SO... my allergic reaction came back with a vengeance last night... today I woke up with raised welts all over my body, i looked like a monster... so I went to the ER the did another cortisone shot (which will prob. not let my weight loss) they also injected benadril and a shot of epinephrin. they also found out that my blood pressure wa scary low 90/40 ... so they put tow bags of liquids on my... it did not raised my BP much, but the injections help my hives.

Still dont know what is causing this, I have to find an allergist urgently now (BTW I was never allegic to ANYTHING) so idk whar the heck is going on.

BTW with my esophagous Dilation, I have absolutelly no restriction (normal), I can actually gulp liquids because it all stays in the esophagus and slowly goes into my sleeve. This is soooooo SAD guys, all this effort to pay for this for nothing.

I need to diet anyway and try to get to 140. right now is no easy, I have no idea what is giving me this allegic reaction (Ithink is the vitamins) but not too sure yet.

Keep us posted!

Restriction should be coming from your stomach, not your esophagus, so I don't know why the esophagus dilation would impact that? But it's not abnormal for people to feel NO restriction with liquids - I didn't feel restriction until I started eating solid foods. I think you might be used to the restriction you felt with the band, which is different than the restriction the sleeve provides.

Have you changed detergents or other cleaning supplies recently? Or soaps or lotions?

Hi Gwen,

i will not feel restriction because my esophagus is very enlarged so it will act as a pouch ... is so frustrating

idk what I will do about it, they can do some procedures to improve it, but is a permanent damage From the band.

i am in an allergist right now

hopeffully I can figure out what is going on.

thabks for checking my post I am a truly basket case. I think I wasted all this money.

But.. your stomach was sleeved, right? I mean, I don't feel any restriction in my esophagus either.

I have an esophagus that grows bigger than a stomach now... with food

Okay, but your stomach is still sleeved which means when food exits your esophagus through the cardiac sphincter, you'll feel the restriction in your stomach. Just like everyone with a sleeve does when they eat correctly.

If your esophagus does grow "bigger than a stomach" when you eat, does this mean you're having problems breathing? Or is it constricting your heart? There isn't really free space in your body so something growing unusually means it has to go somewhere and infringe on the space of another organ.

Is a long story, yes I did have a lot of problems breathing, for 13 years they tought I had COPD and asthma ... It turn our it was the band.... When I deflated the band all the problems got cure, but the weight came back on. so I started filling the band a little bit at a time, then In june I choked and aspirated food into my lungs, ended up in an ambulance and ICU beause I could no breath... in the way to the hospital I had a heart attack because of the lack of oxygen in my body.... sooooo I decided I needed to take the band out... and do something else.. it seemed that the sleve was the best choice for me because I just wanted to lose less than 50 pounds... but in all this process my surgeon never never did a barium swalow to see the condition of my esophagus. This dilation on the esophagous is a very common long term problem from the band. ( I just found out all of this) (I never research it) (I trusted my surgeon, and it seems that he did not know, I guess...) well now the damage is done and my stomach 80% of it is gone... I don't know apenrently there are some tratment to improve the situation, I have to talk to my surgeon but he is on vacation right now.

I have been reading a lot on the internet about this problem. I need to open the end of the souphagous so it empties into the sleeve faster, and apperently they can do a baloon procedure (the same one that they use for when you have stricture .. and this procedure will help the problem.

Is very confusing, and I am not a doctor. Just trying to learn if I can actually benefit from the sleeve eventually. For now I need to get this allergy under control. I have hives all over, they gave me a few meds and did a blood test to check what I am allergic too. I will have the results on Thursday.

I hope I get the hives are better soon!

Sorry if this is complicated, english is not my first language and my writting ability is not too good!

I'd let my surgeon stay on vacation and find a new one. It doesn't sound like he did a very good job the last time.

This all sounds very complicated and I'm sorry you're going through this.

Two recommendations for you - first I would recommend finding a second opinion. Your current surgeon seems to be lacking in information. Second, I recommend that you request a medical translator to go to appointments with you. While I think your english is fine, medical terminology is even more challenging with a language barrier and medical translation is a service that many major medical centers will provide. There might even be a service that you can contact in Austin.
