Nervous about post op pain

Were you depressed too? Kind of worried about that probably more than the pain.

Does drinking actually hurt? Or is it more a feeling that it doesn't want to go down?

I wasn't depressed at all, but if you do encounter it, just tell the doc and they can treat it.

It's hard to describe the sensations of drinking, like explaining the color blue to a blind person.

It doesn't hurt, but can be very uncomfortable, which is why I suggested trying different temperatures. Also, you just won't feel thirsty and nothing tastes good, so it's very easy to just not do it...and that lands you in the ER for an IV bag of fluids.

Everyone has a different experience, but for me, I had no gas pains. I used the narcotics in the hospital and then intermittently for the first week after I was home. I was back to work in a week. I had one incision (the one they pulled the stomach through that was more sore than the others, but it wasn't any worse than a bad paper cut. I was tired for the first couple of days, but then felt normal. I had no problems drinking. At first I took tiny little sips anticipating the pain that everyone talked about but it never happened. I can drink 2-3 ounces through a straw at a time with no issues. Wait a few minutes and drink another ounce.

I hope everything goes smoothly for all of you tomorrow! Wishing you all the best.

My VSG was Oct 18. I'm older than you I'm certain! Pain never really happened. I spent two nights in hospital on pain medication but never took any at home. There was a little soreness but not pain. I had a hernia repair and lapband removal. Everyone is different. I hope you do well!

I'm 62. I'm feeling pretty much good to go now that I have heard from so many of you.

Best of luck to you and Sandra and whoever else is getting the sleeve today!

I had a lot of pain but I had a lot of scar tissue from previous surgery and it took a lot longer in the OR.

I used my pain pump all the time.. but make sure you walk around to get those gas pains out! take gas-x. seems like most people did great w/ pain though :)

I had moderate pain. It felt like I had my c-section all over again. But, I also felt uncomfortable with the gas pressure throughout my entire back. With my surgery, I had the Lap-Band removed, a liver biopsy, the sleeve, and a hiatal hernia repaired. Still glad I had the surgery though.
