taste of water

I'm 6 days post-op, I didn't have a problem drinking water before, but now I can't stand the taste of it. I have to use flavor packets to tolerate it. Has this happened to anyone else? It happens with Ice too.

Yep! Very common. It will probably get somewhat better, but at 11 months out I still flavor mine now.

Yup - totally normal. A lot of people have to experiment with flavors and temperatures to find out what works best.

I'm 5 days post-op. I LOVED ice cold water before surgery. I rarely used flavoring packets, unless it was an iced peach tea. I cannot stand the iced peach tea now, and I like my water room temperature. It may also have something to do with the fact that if I drink something too cold, my stomach cramps a bit.

I bought a big variety pack of Crystal Light (raspberry lemonade, orange sunrise, etc.) and I LOVE them.

So, like they said, I would experiment with some temperatures and flavors and I'm sure you'll find something! They even have Root Beer and Orange/Pineapple/Grape Crush packets now (all caffeine and sugar-free) if you enjoyed any of those types of sodas. :-)

Glad to hear that I'm not alone. I'm learning a lot. I learned today to slow down drinking. Paid for that one all day.

My go-to pre-surgery was ice cold water, plain. I never added anything! I hated Crystal light and the no cal flavor packets.

I struggled for weeks after surgery to continue to drink it that way. It just didn't seem right not to like it so I kept forcing it in that way. Finally the light bulb went off and I began flavoring it and drinking it a bit closer to room temp. Success!

You are not alone!

Yep I loved water before. Now it's weird and metallic tasting. I hate the fake flavored sugar stuff too, so I just tough it out. Pretty much nothing tastes the same right now. The only things I truly enjoy are oatmeal and yogurt (which I have to limit of course).

I haven't had a problem with water, but my husband does. Also, was brought up during our post-op class by many who seem to have that issue. Our NUT suggested trying different brands of bottled water and alkaline water. They seemed to indicate that in most people it is temporary. I would die if I could not drink water!

Good luck!

I have become picky on my water too. My favorite is Acqua Panna Natural Spring Water from Italy. It comes in a glass bottle and has a slightly salty finish to it.

I think it is ok to spend a bit more for something you like. For me, surgery dramatically reduced the amount of food I eat and spending 2 bucks a day on imported water is worth it to me.
