What about Sprouted Grain Breads?

I know in general that bread is bad but I'm having trouble eating certain things without it. I've heard that Essene bread contains sprouts that are ground into flour and thus are actually plants. One in particular I was looking at is Trader Joe's Sprouted Flourless Whole Wheat Berry Bread. No flour and no gluten.

What are your thoughts? Can I eat this without falling prey to the pitfalls of bread?

Another is:

not if you want to continue to lose weight.

One slice has 10 gms of carbs. That is more than my whole days allowance of carbs when I was losing.

wheat flour carbs are carbs ehethrrvtey are sprouted or not.

whst are you trying to eat that requires bread?

it was a question, thought I could see if it was possible (Right now, I'm starting my third week but looking forward to when I can get solids again). Thanks for all of the answers. I'll change my thinking, first proteins then vegs and water in between.

EDIT: Just read Erin's post- Didn't realize you were 2 weeks out. NO. Just No.

I am not deleting what I originally wrote because it has value- but not at 2 weeks out

The real Ezekial Bread has better stats, less calories, less carbs. Did I eat starchy carbs during weight loss? Yes, but very rarely. as in once a month or less. Usually a 1/2 a lite english muffin-50 calories.

That being said the way you word it, it sounds like something you want to add to the regular rotation. Then I would say- just don't do it! Besides the obvious problem with bread while losing it just fills you up too fast. Even now a number of years out if I think about eating a hamburger with a roll, I take one bite and realize it is a no-go. Not going to happen.

My Surgeon's mantra is; Protein first, then veggies, and then IF you have any room fruit then (starchy) carbs. Reality is in the first year or so you have room for protein and maybe a few bites of veggies, and that is a maybe.

BTW I looked at the ingredients it is not gluten free. Says right on it, it has wheat gluten.

Is it healthier? Depends on your definition of 'healthy' when it comes to bread. I do like the original Ezekial Bread brand and keep a loaf in my freezer now that I am in maintenance. I have probably had 3 slices out of it in 6 months.

"Trouble eating certain things without it..."

Trouble for us ought to mean discomfort, pain, foamies, vomiting. Trouble doesn't mean "I don't like eating X without bread." If that's the case, then don't eat X and find something else you like to eat that fits your plan without bread. It's a very slippery slope so early in your surgery to be thinking of introducing heavy carbs. Don't spend your energy looking for loopholes. It just hurts you in the long run!

I never ate bread that early out. I do occasionally now, at over two years out and in maintenance, but rarely. I'm not very carb sensitive (a lot of people on here *are*, and if I was, I'd still be avoiding it), but it takes up real estate in my stomach that could otherwise be used for far more nutritious things.

Not much difference from regular wheat bread nutritionally, according to this article. I've seen 100% whole wheat breads that have less carbs and sugar than this one.
