Dizzy and lightheaded

Ever since my surgery in July, I have been battling dizziness and vision tunneling and going black when I stand up or I've been walking too much. Today, I felt it on the elliptical.

I have to grab onto something or my husband before I fall. It passes quickly, but it is scary. I'm afraid to go places alone.

I eat, I get protein (although not enough) and I take my vitamins.

Anyone else have this? Does it pass?

I dont have high blood pressure or any heart problems.

It is more likely hypotension not hypertension. You are early out so I assume you are not getting a lot of calories at this point. You are several months out there is no reason you aren't getting all your protein in. If you are working out you may need to eat something with some carbs like a protein bar before you work out.

You may also be lacking in electrolytes-specifically magnesium and potassium. Personally I need to take 400mg magnesium glycinate twice a day and I use Morton Lite salt which is ½ potassium and drink an occasional small 35 cal can low sodium V-8.

Also fluids- make sure you are getting your fluids.

then of course - you have talked to your doctors about this, right?

Everyone is different with their needs. These are some that help me.

Its orthostatic hypotension, and is pretty common during those months we are losing weight.

It's easy to confirm if you have access to a blood pressure cuff. Take your BP while lying or sitting, at rest. Stand up, and take it again, especially if you are getting the dizzy lightheaded thing. Your BP will be much lower.

It will go away by the time your weight loss is done. In the meantime, you need to drink more, and then more after that. Increase your electrolytes. I was told to add more salt to food. And when you get up, do it slowly.

This makes me feel so much better. Thank you for confirming it is common. I will try adding salt.
