Hi everyone! I'm 5'6", 31 years old, and my starting weight was 273 when I met with my surgeon a month or so ago. My goal is 140, which is where I was in high school. I'm in the pre-op requirement period. The only things I have left to do are to lose 15 pounds and to have my last of three dietician meetings. I've already lost 7 pounds and my BMI has decreased by 2 already, bringing it down to 42. I've gone up and down and struggled with my weight for so many years now that I no longer thought it was possible to reach my goal weight and that it was somehow out of my reach. But tbh, after reading so many success stories and now starting my journey down this path with VSG, for once in a long time I think it just might be possible. And that gives me hope!

My PCP suggested VSG about a year ago when I was 40 pounds lighter, but I didn't think I was that overweight to need surgery. Like most of the general public, I too had misconceived notions about bariatric surgery. But a few months ago, my PCP mentioned it again and I decided that now that I'm at my heaviest ever, I have to be open to trying anything, so here I am. Thankfully, my insurance already said they would cover it completely, so thank God for that. I'm meeting with my surgeon on 11/14/18 to schedule the surgery. I'm excited, but am also very nervous. As the date gets closer, the reality of what's about to happen sets in deeper and deeper. This is the first online forum/support group I've been a part of. I'm hopeful that I can get and also give support to those who are on this VSG journey with me.

Welcome, and congratulations! It is a scary choice and not an easy one. I was terrified when I went in, but it's been worth it a hundred times over. Join us on the menu threads even pre-surgery!
