His reaction and what he said scares me. I am exhausted and freezing (all of which I assume is because of this)....I get dizzy, irritable, and terrible headaches (which I thought was allergies).....LIFE cannot be easy. AUGH.

Ask your Dr about http://www.injectafer.com/  (it's pretty new)

Mine came back very low (despite faithfully taking iron and eating a lot of iron rich foods) a few months back.

2 injectafer infusions, 30 minutes each, 1 week apart and my labs were back in normal range again. It's something as a RNYer we need to watch. Lab draws at least 1 a year. Malabsorption is a double edged sword.

Hope all is resolved.

No big deal! Get yourself to a hematologist for some iron treatment and all will be well again. It happens to a lot of RNY patients. I am 10 years post-op and still need an iron infusion every once in awhile (just had one yesterday). The best thing is that you will feel better right away! It's nice not to feel exhausted and cold.

I had RNY in 2008. So far i needed iron infusions in 2011, 2012, and 2014.  A lot of us RNY can't absorb the iron. Or can't take enough to absorb.  Good luck.

I am currently 13 years post-op BPD/DS and very happy with the surgery overall.  About 8 years ago I was feeling very tired and feeling overall crappy and My PCp checked my Iron over and over and It was sometimes normal and others only borderline low. Everyone was very confused.  My doc had the foresight to send me to a specalist a Hemotologist.  She took one look at me and asked me" Do you crave dirt or Ice?"  I said yes, I crave

10 years out and I have to have IV iron every few months!  Ferritin isn't my friend.
