What did you eat in the Puree stage?

I FINALLY get to graduate next week to puree.  I swear it seems Iike I have been on liquids for months LOL  I think that's only because I've really dealt with a LOT of head hungry these past couple days.  My 2 weeks will be on Monday which is Memorial Day and my Nut is closed so I have to go in on Tuesday.  Well I FEEL like I'm getting screwed out of a day I could have started puree.  I'm just curious what you ate during the puree stage and how many ounces at a time?  I know I've heard talk about refried beans and sour cream and also someone said Wendy's chili? I just want to be able to stock my cabinets and frig this weekend to be ready! :) Thanks!

I lived off refried beans with a little cheese and sour cream, YUM!  Yep pureed Wendy's chili works too.  I also liked cottage cheese and creamy soups (like cream of mushroom, etc). I know it sounds gross, but pureed clam chowder wasn't too bad and it has protein.  My doc suggested pureeing split pea soup or lentil soup but I don't really care for those.  They do have protein though. And though I never tried it, Bekah's ricotta-bake is supposed to be great for pureed stages!

I had Bekah's ricotta bake and it was good. If you go to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com she has a lot of great ideas. I ate a lot of baby food meats..beef chicken and ham. It was pretty good and each one has 8 gm of protein. I also made the pot roast that is on eggfaces web page. Depending on what you like she has a lot of good idea. Another good thing is Fage yogurt. It has 17 g of protein but when I was on puree I could never finish a whole one. I just put some splenda in it. I also had baby food veggies. I could usually eat one meat which is about 2 1/2 oz and the veggies are 3 oz I think. I also had the Wendy's chili. It seemed like 4 oz at a time was about all could tolerate. Hope that helps!

Ugh... I heard such great things about refried beans & how WLS patients can tolerate them but they did not work AT ALL for me.  I only mention that so you just b/c something works for someone doesn't mean it works across the board.  My pureed diet was pretty much the same every day:  oatmeal; scrambled egg substitute w/ cheese; light & fit yogurt; cottage cheese; SF pudding & split pea soup.   Really not a bad few weeks.

After being on liquids anything more solid is like heaven! I had a lot of mashed fish - salmon especially because it seemed to go down easily. I cooked 'soft' meat like fillet steak and pork tenderloin in soup and pureed them to up the protein count.

Liz,  I had my surgery a week ahead of you and have had a similar experience. I don't know if it's head hunger, but my mouth wants to eat :)  I got so tired of "sweet" liquids -- my kids are now working their way through the jello and pudding that I could no longer stand.   I started purees about 6 days ago and am slowly adding new things. So far I've had -hummus -cottage cheese (it's chewable and creamy) -refried beans with a bit of cheese on top (one of my old Taco Bell favs anyway) -chicken and mayo (made with canned chicken because it's definitely moist) I think eggs or oatmeal will be next for me.  I've only had a 1/4 cup at most, eaten over 30 minutes. My Nut guide says to keep to the 15 min per oz.  Some of the portions on the sample menu are 1/2 cup. Best of luck! Christine

I know the liquid stage was torture.  I looked forward to my chewable vitamin every day, just so I had something to bite into.   My favorite mushie food is ricotta cheese mixed with a splash of vanilla, some splenda and cinnamon.  I had some today again because my pouch was mad at me for over eating at lunch.  I also keep boiled eggs in the fridge and then I can make a quick egg salad. I love the Fage yogurt.  I use sugar free jam (I like raspberry) a little SF Torani vanilla syrup (found in the coffee section of the grocery store) and some splenda mixed up.  You can even freeze this and its a great treat and helps you to slow down when eating.  I think this stage went fairly quick.  It is also the time when my pouch started to wake up.  I never felt any type of fullness while on the liquid stage which made me always feel hungry. I do not have the problem any longer. 1.5 - 2 oz. is my limit. Dominique

I have been loving pureed chili the past few days. Initially I didn't think it would taste good but I needed some flavor and after I tried it I realized that most of what I like about chili is in the spices more than the texture.

Even better, for the first time this morning I tried adding unflavored whey powder to the chili. I was hesitant to do this as everything else I have added it too has tasted horrible, but I don't taste it at all in the chili. The spices completely cover the taste.
