Dry Scalp -- Please help
Hi OH Family....
I am now a little over 5 months post-op and everything has been going really well for the most part. However, the last two months I've noticed my scalp has become EXTREMELY DRY to the point where huge pieces of dry skin are peeling of???? I am so self conscience and have tried to remedy the situation with dandruff shampoos and what not,...BUT nothing seems to be working.
Have any of you experienced this? Or do you have any advice...
Any suggestions will help...thanks!

You need more omega 3's, they reduce skin inflammation,(dry, itchy, scaly, skin) as well as lot of other body functions. Omega 3's are in foods like salmon , flax seed & walnuts but I'd recomend a "burpfree" fish oil supplement. It's difficult to get enough Omega 3's just through food. www.swansonvitamins.com has cheap prices I buy all my supplements from them.
I grew up in a home with well water, no softener ... so therefore very hard water. One side effect of bathing in hard water is a very dry scalp. My Mom would joke that we had a bad case of "cradle cap", not so funny when you are a teenager. I know how crazy snow-flakes in dark hair can make a person :)
Anyhow, cradle cap is usually associated with infants, but teens and those with hormonal fluctuations can have a similar condition called seborrhea. So, my thoughts are this is a temporary condition caused by crazy WLS hormones. No I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV
.
A cosmetic "quick fix" is to rub a small amount of olive oil into your scalp. If your scalp is inflamed you may want to try using a OT cortisone cream also.
Good Luck,
Melissa :)

You are probably on a low fat diet too and that doesn't help. I've been better since I started taking the omega fatty acids plus I use a lot of moisturizer on my skin. (But not my scalp,

I have posted this info several times before, but will keep doing it because it works! There is a WONDERFUL supplement you can buy ( I know...another pill to take!) at any drug store or over the Internet (I get mine at Costco) that is not very expensive and it helps your skin, hair, nails, ligaments, tendons, bones, muscles, gums & teeth and helps control hunger (my main demon!)...I have been taking this for years and I have NO wrinkles and look very young for my age. This supplement is called "NeoCell Super Collagen+C (Type 1&3)"...try it, as it not only works SUPER WELL, but as we lose weight, it helps with the elasticity of our skin also. Men should be taking this product also...my friend's husband takes it everyday and LOVES it!
