From what I can tell MFP doesn't track protein.  Is there an app out there that does?

Have you checked fitday?  I have used it in the past but not lately.

I always used the tracker here under health tracker.  I found it pretty easy since I was here everyday anyway.

I love myfitnesspal.com as I like tracking everything and making recipes that calculate stuff out. That way I can go in and modify if needed to change protein amount or sodium. To make it work easily, you have to use the customize feature and then you make the protein percentage 25% and not the lower percentage that it defaults to. Every now and then when you modify your weight as it is going down, myfitnesspal like to recalculate your caloric and nutritional values back to a more "normal" setting but WLS patients need to go into customize and change those values back to what we wanted in the first place. I have mine set at 1,000 calories per day with 25% of those being protein. I also reduce the sodium level to 1,500 mg because I'm salt sensitive. My nutritionist told me about this website and I found it is a great tool. I actually learn things just on my own from tracking my eating patterns. Now, 3.5 months out, I'm only using it about 2-3 days in a row about every 3 weeks but in the beginning I tracked everything.

hey:)

MFP does track protein

i use this program and i love it

what you need to do is customize it.

first you have to go to the 'home' tab

then click 'goals'

then click 'change goals'

it will ask custom or guided, choose 'custom'

you can set calories, carbs, protein, fat. you might have to up the calories quite a bit to get in what you want for protein and carbs. just adjust the calories (even though calories mean nothing for us) it will get it to the right spot. for example for me to get 210g protein, 120g carbs, & 120 fat i have to set the calories to 2400.

then on the bottom press 'save goals'

THEN

go to the 'food' tab

click 'settings'

it will say Nutrients Tracked and a list below

first one should be protein

second should be carbs

third should be fat

then there are two slots you can fill with what you want or leave them blank (i left mine blank)

also in the menu you can see you can also name your meal times.i keep mine basic with breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks but i have seen others do two breakfasts, and snacks between all meals for ease of tracking. whichever is easiest for you

then you will see if you want to have your diary of food public or private or just friends to view it. if people don't know you have the ds (like me) then i suggest keeping it private, because you don't' want some poor soul trying to eat like you and not get any results lol

if you want add me on MFP - my username is montanadanni

I use Calorie Counter by Fat Secret and it does track protein.  It's free and I know both Android and Iphone has it.  I've been using it for awhile and am happy with it.

I use Dailyplate as I found it easier to use then MFP.  I'm able to easily add foods and my recipes to the database.
