I am so excited about this! I had my second evaluation at Budning Eye Institue yesterday, and they can fix my eyes!!!! I was born with strabismus (disorder in which the eyes do not line up in the same direction when focusing), and it has haunted me off and on... I had my first surgery at around one year of age to fix my crossed eyes (both), and another at age 12 on my left eye to fix the now "lazy eye". I was told then that at around age 30 it most likely would start to appear again - and yes, it has. The left eye turns out frequently, especially when I am tired; and the right eye goes out occasionally, and also tends to go up... so after two visits to Dr Budning, he has decided that a thrid surgery will benefit and fix at least 80% of the turning. It will be just on my right eye, on both the vertical and horizontal muscles. Apparentlty the vertical (the up issue) has never been addressed before. By fixing the one eye, it will "trick" my brain into thinking both eyes are fixed, and thus the left eye will no longer turn out either! woohoo! My fear has always been that I'll be the old, crazy looking weird-eye lady -- like that guy in the original "Poseidon Adventure", hehehehe... so... April 28th is the day! It is just an out-patient surgery now, takes about 20 minutes!!! I'll be off work for three days only.
