2/2/2006:
My EKG results have arrived at the gatekeeper's office, and my referral to see the surgeon should be sent in to Lakeside in the next few days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get approved for consult.

As of yet my medical group has not even received a referral for me to see the surgeon. Previously when I've been given a referral it was sent in and even answered in a week or less. I know once Lakeside gets it they usually give an answer within 48 hours. I'm not sure if it is just standard that the gatekeeper's office takes longer to send in a referral, or if I should call and ask them about it. I hate feeling like I'm being a pain in the ass.

My medical group has not received anything from the gatekeeper Dr as of last week. I've called his office 2 times and have yet to have anyone return my phone calls. They've had everything they said they needed before they would refer me since Feb. 2nd. I don't know what the hold up is and no one will call me back.

I called my medical group to ask if authorization had been sent in by any chance and they said no. I told her I was having trouble getting someone to call me back, so she called this Dr's office. The woman she spoke to there told me that this Dr. has been trying to get in touch with my PCP since 2/2 to have a Dr. to Dr. talk about me.

My PCP called me today and said the reason for the delay is that my EKG actually shows that my heart beats early. She didn't think that would be a problem, but she was going to have the cardiologist read it just in case. She said once she hears back from him she will call the gatekeeper and tell him the findings and then she will call me and let me know if everything is ok, and if not, what we need to do.

PCP called and the cardiologist wants me to do a stress echo test and then meet with his nurse practitioner. :(

Sent in WW documentation a few days ago. Gatekeeper's office called and said I need to have an EKG. I had it done today, everything is fine.

Been on WW for 2 and a half months, and I've lost 9 pounds. Been following the plan as I'm supposed to.

Half way through my 6 month sentence on WW. Starting to feel a little better about it, because at least now I know that I NEED this surgery and that I did try every other option.

The most important thing I've learned so far is that it's the medical group who is calling all the shots. It's their requirements you have to meet, and they can be different from your insurance company's.

Got letter from imaging place that they found something on my mammogram. Scheduled me to have another one in about 6 months to watch it, they believe it's benign.

Visited a very nice oncologist. He was supportive of surgery.

Oncologist ordered that I have a mammogram. PCP called me to say she won't send in referral until the results of the mammo are received.
