Hello!

I haven't been updating my profile so I figured now was a good as time as ever!

It's been just over 2 months since surgery and I'm done 42 lbs!!  I experienced a plateau about 3 weeks ago but over came it with exercise.  I am still careful about what I eat because I don't want to find out that I can tolerate sugar and such.  If I believe I can't, I won't!

I've also joined a gym to help out with exercising, it's been too darn chilly (and I'm a suck with the cold - I feel it so much more already!) so joining a gym was definitely a good idea!  My best friend joined with me so we're supporting each other.

I believe that's it for now.  I hope the holidays were happy and I wish the best for everyone in the new year!

Hi!

Welcome to my Obesity Help Web Page!  Thank you for having a peak!

I'm interested in having Weight Loss Surgery performed at Barix - Forest Health Medical Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  The surgery I'm interested in having is Roux-En-Y (hopefully lap!).  Below is my progress to date! (most recent at the top)

I know I said I wouldn't be updating until after my surgery.. but ... here  I am!  I'm still very excited, nerves and worries are definitely moving to the front of my head... getting louder but I keep quieting them down with common sense... or at least I'm trying to!  There is definitely mental preparedness involved with surgery.  I'm ready for the physical aspect but the mental demons definitely make their voice heard, lol.  I'm not worried (yet).  Tomorrow I'm only allowed clear liquids (sugar free jello, broth, water, de-caffinated coffee or tea - not so bad since I enjoy mint tea and it's naturally caffeine free)  I'll post again after the surgery!  Yay... only 2 more sleeps!

Well, I had my PAT's (Pre-Admission Tests) done today. What wonderful people at Barix.  I honestly recommend them to anyone even contemplating surgery. They are very helpful, honest and fun to be around.  They are so informative and patient with their answers.

Everything checked out ok.  My blood work came back fine, as well as the x-rays, ultrasound, ekg, urine sample, breathing test, lung function and the best news... I lost 3 lbs!  The nurse said Dr. Kam will be happy to see that!  I don't know about him, but I certainly was!

I'm trying to patiently wait for October 17, 2006 but wow, it seems like it's taking forever!  It really isn't and the time is flying by, but I'm so excited!

I'll update next when I have finished my surgery! Woohoooo!!!!

YEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!  I'm scheduled for PAT (Pre-Admission Tests) on October 3/06 and SURGERY ON OCTOBER 17/06!!!!!!  I'm so excited that it has come this far and the dream will become a reality!  I'm so happy to have such supportive family and friends!  It certainly has made this journey easier to deal with... the ups and downs and frustrations and joys... Thank you ALL for the support and love!

YAY!  I got a call from Terri from Barix and she said Dr. Kam has signed off that I'm suitable from surgery (my ecg/ekg must've been fine) and I should be hearing from them shortly with a surgery date!  I'm so excited!  I'm bouncing at work so I'm sure my co-workers think I'm going insane, but they all know how much this means to me, so they're coping with it, lol!  I'll keep updating to let anyone who wants to know, what's going on!

I had my consultation at Barix today!  Dr. Kam was the surgeon that did the seminar and WOW! I was so impressed with his knowledge and compassionate personality that I checked off the box wishing he was my surgeon.  The staff at Barix was AMAZING as well!  They smile, laugh and genuinely care about their patients, even if you're not officially a patient yet!

The seminar itself was like other seminars that I have attended but the big difference with Dr. Kam was the confidence he showed while doing the seminar.  He didn't hesitate with answers to anything we threw at him.  He has a very nice handshake which I find very important.  I was completely overwhelmed by the caring support of the staff!  Oh.. and yes... the chairs were definitely big and strong enough that I NEVER worried when I was about to sit for fear of breaking them.  Such a lovely, clean and friendly hospital.

The one on one consultation with Dr. Kam was very re-assuring as well.  My best friend Sarah came with me and she was also very impressed with him.  In fact.. before I could get my pen in hand, she was telling me I had better check that box off that I want him to be my surgeron!  I laughed at her because she was so adamant... She said she had a GREAT feeling about him, and I admit... I did too.  What an amazing surgeon.  He really impressed me and Sarah, and I can only imagine how my family will be at ease after talking with him as well.

He was very thorough in going over my chart and double checking if anything would cause the surgery to be more complicated but he didn't forsee anything that would cause complications.  He even said that there shouldn't be a problem with doing the procedure laproscopically.  I'm so excited to get this going!

There was only one hiccup that day with Barix.  They didn't have my approval letter on file so they asked me to fax them my copy, which I did and they put it in my file.  The only test Dr. Kam wants me to get done is an EKG so I"m off to my family doctor to get him to set that up.

I'll keep updating as new news comes along!  Have a great day everyone!

You scored as Faerie. Faerie: Aren't you a cute little flying person? Faeries are earth spirits. They live among each element completely hidden. They have cousins called Pixies. Pixies however, are very mischevious. They enjoy tormenting other creatures for fun. Little pranksters.. I hope you never meet one. Pixies have a bad reputation for finding a creature and clinging to them until death. Faeries can be somewhat close to a Pixie, but mostly they are loving, playful, and carry with them a child-like enthusiasm for life. Hide among the pedals of a Daisy, you are a Faerie.

Well, I have a consult date!  I go August 31/06 with my Best Friend Sarah (who is amazing!).  We're going to leave early, probably 9 am so I can sign in and won't have to wait forever for other consults to be finished.  We'll go SHOPPING (yes, please... twist my arm to go shopping, hehe)... so, we'll make a day of exploring :)  always fun!
The consult starts at 12, I believe and I'm hoping to be all finished and across the border before rush hour starts.  Here's to hoping!

Woohoo!  These last few days have been very frustrating! GRRR!  I finally called OHIP to see what is going on with my application.  They sound a bit confused and inform me that they have not received anything for any hospital!  Can you believe it!  But all is not lost... I went to see my doctor to see what was going on and yes... my blood pressure was boiling!  They're not in, so I leave a note stating I will be back at 1PM to pick up the signed forms, and I will fax them myself. Hmmph, so there!
I get there at 1 and the form is waiting for me!  But it's missing some information, so I'm happy I looked over it before I left, so the receptionist gets the doctor to fill in what's missing, gives me the form... I rush back to work (because I'm on my lunch break) and fax them myself!  Withing half an hour, a lady from OHIP calls to let me know they've received the fax and have faxed it over to Thunderbay!  WOOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!  So, now, I just wait until I hear from them again, and the celebration goes on!

8Aug06
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?????  I finally got a number to call OHIP and they have received NOTHING from my doctor! NOTHING! GAH! I'm fuming!  I'm heading over to my doctors first thing in the morning to get to the bottom of this.  I will fax it myself!  I'm done with being the nice one here and getting nothing done!

Switching hospitals! We don't seem to be having any luck with St. Mary Mercy with OHIP (but I don't see why because OHIP has approved people there before) but now I'm switching to Barix - Forest Health Medical Center... from reading the posts on the forum, I noticed that OHIP approval seems to be fairly bump free, so let's give this a go!

Still nothing from OHIP and St. Mary doesn't have any information either... *sigh* the wait continues

15Dec05
My doctor ok'd the surgery! YAY!  I brought him all the information from St. Mary Mercy Hospital and all is great!  He said he'd get all the forms filled out and faxed, so now I just have to wait and see!  *crossing fingers until they hurt that all goes well*
