Approaching Solid Food Stage

Apr 17, 2010

Next week I should get the okay to progress to solid foods and I can hardly wait.  Pureeing the food hasn't been a problem, it's the crushed calcium and vitamins and mixing them in fluid that have caused me to heave for the last couple of weeks.  I can barely get them down.  So being able to chew/swallow them will be a relief.

Went for my first hike in a year yesterday.   Made is up and down a couple of really steep climbs and it included some boulder scrambling.  A couple of times I felt very weak because I only had a couple of hundred calories from breakfast in me to draw from.  I will have to bring a healthy snack with me in the future, though it breaks that 3 meal a day rule.  Stayed hydrated.  We came up to a waterfall unnoticed where some photograhers were taking pictures of a young lady in her underwear!  Wonder if it came off after we left.

Treadmill and weights.  I'm really feeling good and no longer lethargic.  Rashes are already improving.

Had to go to ER...

Mar 12, 2010

for these rashes.  My surgeon wanted me to go to ER.  They gave me Rx's for Benadryl and Orepred which should clear it up.

I'm Alive

Mar 11, 2010

I don't have any pain so I haven't needed to take the pain medication.  I never expected that.  I was feeling really good and up and walking that night.  The nurses were amazed that I was getting around so well and so often.

I have a red patch on my neck and chest.  They don't itch or cause discomfort.  But I have swelling and rash on my hands and feet.  I can hardly clench my fist closed and the itching is so intense that it's almost impossible to not scratch.  Then it burns red hot.  It began in the hospital and they have me Benadryl.  Saw the doctor today and they want me to take Benadryl and soak in Domeboro.  They could give me a cortizone shot but that would inhibit wound healing.  They want an update tomorrow to see if there's any improvement.

I'm glad to be home resting, napping, and of course walking.

In less than 24 hours I'll be in the OR

Mar 06, 2010

I gave myself an out-loud combination justification/pep talk this morning.  I needed to wash away my fears and anxiety and put myself into a peaceful and positive state of mind going into this tomorrow.

I'm as ready as I can be.  I went to three different doctors before making a decision.  I've studied and organized so much I can practically recite the instructions.  And, I've done everything that's been asked of me by the doctor and nutritionist.

Thank you all for your support and well wishes.  It really does make a difference to me to connect with you on our WLS journey.
