The 3 Weeks Stall
Jul 18, 2021
I hit the 3 weeks stall before three weeks had passed from the day I was sleeved and it was really scary. For all the research I did, I was still worried that this too wasn't going to work. All my demons were back taunting me. Was it worth it? I enjoyed eating and now I couldn't eat all the things I had loved and where were the benefits?
I took my frustration to the outdoors and started walking. I am now walking one hour everyday and wish I had more time to walk. I am no longer scared of the scale because my fair angels won the battle over my mind and banished the demons. The science is clear. If I keep doing what I am doing as the doctor prescribed I cannot go wrong. Also I took the doctor's advice and only weigh-in once a week.
I am being positive...this too shall pass and my weight loss journey will continue.
Hang in there...
Eighth Day after VSG - Abdominal Pain
Jun 26, 2021
Ok, surely I should have expected to have some kind of abdominal pain since a surgeon got in there, blew up my tummy with air, turned things around, snipped this and that then pulled out a lot of it. Yet as I focused on the outward incisions I forgot all about what must be happening inside.
Last night I could barely sleep. I had a dull, heavy, tagging pain on the right side waist area where I assume the sleeve is located. It is a nagging discomfort rather than pain. At 4:30AM I texted the surgeon's nurse to explain and she did not seem concerned. "You are healing" is all she said.
I had avoided all pain medication since Day 2 after surgery but if this goes on I will take some tonight before I sleep.
Sixth Day after VSG
Jun 24, 2021
Just when I thought I had it down to a tee, I experienced my first ever dumping experience. The culprit - Carnation High Protein Instant Breakfast. It has added sugar and heavy on fat. I am on the full liquid diet and now know to make sure I check for added sugar.
It hit like a rock after breakfast. At first I didnt know what was happening because I am pretty steady and never really faint. But I could feel the wooziess in my limbs even when seated. My heart was pounding, my nose started to sweat and I thought I woud fall off my chair. I summoned what strength I had in me to walk to my bed and stayed there for about 30 minuted trying to be stable. Eventually, it passed and I did not get any diarrhea as some bariatric patients do but I learned my lesson. The dumping syndrome is real.
The day ended well. I had a doctor's appointment for labs and since there was a scale that worked well, I tried it and found I had lost 11 lbs in six days. I stopped by Whole Foods to get some wholesome soups and broths and now back home contemplating a second week on the full liquid diet...
Second Day after VSG
Jun 20, 2021
Yesterday when I returned home after surgery I was running an adrenaline and doing everything by the book. Nothing mattered more than being home. I did my breathing exercises on time and followed the liquid diet without a problem. Even the incision that bled a bit didn't bother me.
Today I woke up and stayed in bed till 9:30am and I only got out because the alarm reminded me to take my medicine. I was not a bit hungry but I was woozy. Realized I had to get something into my stomach- proteins first - so I started with a shake. It wouldn't go done so I pushed it with some G2 sugar free Gatorade. By the time I was done I count eat breakfast so I took a nap and had cream of wheat for lunch at two. I had puréed mushroom soup for dinner - about 4 ounces and a popsicle for desert. Completed a second protein shake and was ready for bed.
This is my new life where my stomach will freeze up and clamp up and refuse to eat.
I like it already... but today I was not as breezy as yesterday. Hoping for happier tomorrow's.
