I am sorry that i have not been on my profile in a LONG time. OMG time has just flown here.

September Update! 4 1/2 months post-op and down 72lbs!!
Sep 11, 2007
I am sorry that I did not update my blog in August. The summer has been very busy for me as I have been doing a lot of yardwork for my grandmother. Everything is going great and I have not had any problems since my last update. I am now down 72 lbs since surgery and down 78 lbs since beginning my journey last October. I am also now into size 2x clothes(shirts and pants). Now have to get myself some new underwear!! LOL! They start to fall off of me when I put them on cause their too big!! LOL...
But it would not be a very good thing to happen to you if you are in public!!
As far as my eating habits, they are good. I can eat more now, but still take small portions cause I do not want to overdo it. I can now also tolerate mostly anything, even though bread or sticky foods bother me still. Other than that, nothing else new really to report however I just cannot believe how time has flown and how much things have changed for me this past year. I am so happy that I went through this surgery and am finally on the right path!! I would surely do this again in a heartbeat. If I get the chance I will update again in October! Keep posted!
July Update!! 10 weeks out and 46lbs gone forever!!
Jul 07, 2007
As far as my eating, It is much better now and I do not have any more stuck feelings with foods. I also am getting in more fluids and am trying to get up to 64 fl oz per day requirement. I am also getting in more protein and think that I have met the 60 gm requirement for that. I can tolerate chicken better now and can eat most anything now, just in very small amounts. Yes I have tested my limits and tried some sweets, I found out that they do not bother me(I don't have the dumping syndrome) but I try at all costs to stay away from them due to the high amounts of sugar, fat, and calories in them. As far as exercise, I am doing a routine 30-45 minute walk, but hope to increase that up to an hour by the end of August. My goal is to get down 100 lbs by December 1st. Hopefully with the exercising and eating smaller portions I can achieve that. Well enough rambling, I will update again in August!
6 weeks out update!!! -35lbs since surgery!!

Just an update on me...
May 27, 2007
I am sorry for not updating my profile sooner, the past couple weeks have been quite rough with getting all of my liquids and protein in. This past week & 1/2 was not the greatest with getting everything in, and I am now becoming dehydrated from not getting enough liquids in. I am so sick and tired of water, crystal light, etc that I could puke! I literally have to force myself to drink my liquids, but am only getting in about 40 fl oz. Protein intake is not the greatest either because of me having problems with meats(chicken and turkey). AM only getting in about 40gm of protein too. Beef and pork I can tolerate some, but still have some problems with them too. When I say I have problems with them, after eating, I get this very annoying and painful stuck feeling in my chest that I literally have to nearly puke to get rid of. I think it is foam that is stuck in there from too much saliva in my pouch. Boy is it an awful feeling.... YUCK! :-( Other than that, my exercise is not going great either because I always feel so tired during the day and sleep a LOT! I want to be getting out and walking, but am not because of being so tired and having the starting of being dehydrated. Oh does it get any worse......
On the good side of things, I have lost nearly 28lbs, and am noticing some good changes with clothes fitting looser, and some about ready to fall off of me. Also have been doing much better the past 3 days with not having the sticking feeling. Still need to get my liquids up though and get my protein in. Other than that, that is what has been going on and hopefully I will post a much better update again soon when I feel a little bit better. :-)
2 Week Update
May 12, 2007
Just wanted to let everyone know how I was doing. I am down about 20lbs since my surgery, which is a milestone for me(being UNDER 300 for once in 10 years!!) and am healing great. I am nearly completely healed in my main incision and the 2 smaller holes where the tubes were are continuing to heal nicely. Exercise is getting better, but now I am having a very tough time with getting all my liquids and protein in since I started purees on Wednesday this past week. Have tried some pureed turkey and chicken... nope, stuck in the back of my throat and causes pain, tried hamburger, nope too dry and sticks too. I have tried eggs too and they stick too so I guess I will have to stick to cheese! Cottage cheese goes down fine, as well as cheesesticks. Will have to do some expermenting to see what I can get down without it sticking in the back of my throat. Soups are next on my list to try. I did have some pork&beans a couple nights ago and they stayed down fine, as well as a half a hot dog which stayed down fine too. I am totally amazed at how this surgery has changed my eating habits. Oh well, hopefully as time goes on I will be able to eat more, and not get those "sticking" feelings in my chest. Keep posted, I will post another update again soon!

Pre-Op Admission Meeting/Testing and Surgery consult complete!
Apr 18, 2007
Well Today I went to my Pre-Admission meeting and also had my surgery consultation with Dr. Hill. Both meetings went really well. I will provide some description from both meetings...
At my pre-admission meeting, there were 2 nurses who held the meeting(One's name was Sue, and the other was Dani(I believe but am not 100% positive on this). Both were very nice ladies. They went over all the procedures that would happen the day of surgery and in the post op recovery period in great detail. They also went over all the pre-op prep procedures and the bowel prep too. There is just a lot of information that I got, but it would take me a week to describe it all out to you so I will just leave it at that... LOL! I also got my incentive spirometer yesteray too. Have to practice with that and build up some lung strength for deep breathing during my hospital stay. Will have a cute little bear pillow to use when doing the deep breathing and coughing too. Other than that, I will say that I am sure going to be on good pain meds.... LOL! I will have the ON-Q pain medication catheter(inserted in the incision site during surgery) as well as the PCA pump, and other medications if I need them. Also will be recieving blood thinner shots(yes in the stomach area... ouch! lol), and will have some Flowtrons(these are put around your legs and pumped with warm air to keep blood circulation going). Also will have a G-tube(For draining the stomach and keeping it flat from what Dr. Hill told me), foley catheter, Iv's galore, etc... LOL! Boy what a time it is going to be moving and getting out of bed! LOL!! But will have to do it!
At my appt with Dr. Hill I do have to admit I was a little nervous because I he was a new doctor, but as soon as he stepped in the door and introduced himself I immediately felt a lot better. Everyone who has told me this is so right! I really do like Dr. Hill and am so greatful to have him as my surgeon. After a firm handshake and introduction he proceded to go over the procedure that I would be having(open rny) in GREAT detail! He even drew pictures for me to make sure I was understanding what he was telling me. He also went over the risks and potential complications of it in great detail too. I do have a lot of trust in Dr. Hill and am so much more confident now that I have chose the right Dr. to do my surgery and that if anything goes wrong, to know what to do about it.
Other than that, I did also get some great news yesterday from my Endocrine NP. My bloodwork came back and she is lowering my dose of growth hormone(this is not the great news, but is a good thing because with the weight loss, I won't need as much growth hormone). The great news that I recieved was that my Fasting insulin is down to 18.4 which is NORMAL!!! YAHOO!! At it's highest it was 35.9 or double the normal. Also my glucose has dropped from 94(highest but is normal) to 83 which is good! I did ask her about it because here I was thinking the worst. I was really pleased with that and am sure that things will continue to go well after my surgery! Keep posted as I will post once more again next week before I have the surgery!
