Hi!  I'm not sure what to post here, but I'm just gonna shoot from the hip.  I decided I wanted to have bariatric surgery many years ago.  I never had a weight problem until I had kids.  No matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried to diet and exercise, the weight would not come off.  I have been struggling with excess weight for 30 years now and it's time to do something drastic.  I watched as my mother literally ate herself to death.  My older brother died at the age of 50 due to weight related issues.  The only people in my family who have been able to lose weight and keep it off were the ones who underwent bariatric surgery.  It's my turn.  Two years ago I started a program through DARS, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services in the State of Texas, for funding for bariatric surgery.  I was notified today that I have state funding approval and I will have my surgery before the end of the year.  I'm looking at a Duodenal Switch.  My doctor and I talked about it and we agreed that this is the best surgery for my situation.  I've done everything I've been asked to do and more.  This is actually a good thing--the doctor found a large number of polyps in my stomach that could potentially turn cancerous in the pre surgical scope the doctor did.  He is going to remove the portion of my stomach that has the polyps.  Since my grandmother died of stomach and pancreatic cancer, this is a good thing for me.  My husband and 9 year old daughter are supportive.  I can't wait to look and feel better!
