I have been heavy set,ok obese, for as long as I can remember....I started looking into WLS about 5 years ago and fortunately did not proceed with what I was planning, the lap band....the doc I was going through did not do the sleeve at that time and I always said I would not be interested in RNY. So now 5 years later and I turned 50 yrs old recently and realized that my mother had her first stroke in her fifties, so I had to take action. Sure, weight watchers works for some people but I had lost and gained the same 10 lbs with WW for the past 10 + yrs....I realized my weight problem is similar to my mothers and the funny thing is I married a man like my father....tall and skinny! I found a doc in my area who did another surgery I did not know about, the sleeve. I researched a lot and started the preop process in March...I have been visiting the sleeve forum frequently since march and found the help on this site invaluable....I am a nurse and had lost my job last year and was job hunting...unfortunately I think that I was bypassed for some great jobs due to my size...1 director I spoke to said that she had no doubt that I knew how to do the job but was unsure if I could physically perform the job....that was hard to hear....and a coincidence is that my surgery would be at the same hospital except that that same director was fired shortly after my interview(through no fault from me) karma baby!
