I have always been overweight. From there, it was obesity, then the dreaded morbid obesity. My husband was in the same situation. He went to a cardiologist that suggested he talk to a weight loss surgeon. Immediately, I was one of the die hard sceptics and thought it sounded like the essy way out. But, agaiaga my judgement, I decided to accompany my husband to the weight loss surgeon's office. This is where my mind was rattled. The surgeon spoke about things that felt as though he was looking into my past. He spoke about yo-yo dieting and addressed concerns of people thinking it was easy. You see, I'm 31 and still want to have children. The unnecessary risk my body would go through getting pregnant could be dangerous (something I had already considered). He was so open and reassuring. We left that appointment with the decision to move forward and go for it.
Since surgery, I have been able to start marking things off my bucket list that I never thought I'd accomplish, including kayaking. We plan to travel the world and live our lives to the fullest. Then, when we're ready, we will start a family and it will tick another box on my list.
Having surgery was one of the best decisions of my life. It has not been easy and it takes a lot of work to be successful but it's worth it.
