Gastric Balloon - 1 Year Adjustable

Oct 24, 2018

Posted in Non-Surgical Forum

Hello All,

As I don't qualify for surgery (besides I'm not brave enough for it), I am hoping to qualify to get the Spatz3 12 month adjustable Gastric Balloon next month.

It has only been approved in Canada since Oct 17 of last year (2017) and there is only one private clinic in Canada that offers it.

The 2 biggest differences with this balloon are:

  1. It can be left in your tummy for 12 months as opposed to only 6
  2. It is adjustable which means when weight loss plateaus you can get the balloon inflated to re-start the weight loss. In case you are having issues with the balloon, you may also have it deflated to help manage your issues.

There is little info out there on 12 month balloons and most peeps that have had them got the procedure in Mexico, Australia and a few places in Europe. There are FB groups that I've joined for support but wanted to share here also in case there are a few of members here.

If anyone already has experience with this balloon I'd love to hear about it. If you are interested in reading about my journey (I've not even qualified for it yet), I'll be posting on my blog on this site so feel free to click "follow" or whatever the button is to follow someone's blog.

Remaining Positive - Achieved 30% of my goal - YAY ME!

Oct 24, 2018

I've been on a detox diet for a day. Yep, we're talking about only 24 hours. It was fuckin hard. I lost 1.8 lbs. Yes this is great yet I was disappointed. My brain was negative and starting beating me up. I checked in with my support groups on FB and learned a few things and won the fight with my negativity. These 3 things turned my shitty view to a positive one:

Tracking Progress:

  1. Track percentage of weight lost*
  2. Track percentage to goal weight**
  3. Take measurements in cm as opposed to inches.

*For those of us mathematically challenged, here is a link to a weight loss %age calculator https://www.fitwatch.com/calculator/weight-loss-percentage/

**Percentage to goal weight calculation. Total lbs to lose from HW to GW = (272 - 130) = 140 lbs. This would be 100% of my goal. As of today's weight what is my percentage? Current weight 229.0. Current amount lost (272-229) = 43 lbs). Current percentage of goal (lbs lost/total pounds to lose *100) =  43/142 = 30% of my goal - YAY ME! wish there was a ticker for this calulation tracker

5 years later....

Oct 09, 2018

I cannot believe it has been 5 years since I posted here.

I've been up and down with my weight again. Trying everything. Now I'm no longer afraid of WLS so I'm starting my research now and have appointments next week lined up to get the ball rolling.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Flood, cocoon, smoke free 6 months!!!

Sep 10, 2013

We had a flood emoticon here in Toronto in early July, I was not too impacted, just some power outages that left me internet-less. What did effect me was a flood in my condo that started about 3 weeks back and life has been pretty sucky since.

I'm still not back at home and my internet time is still drastically reduced. I also ran out of my Optifast and had a week long binge. I was going to post a bunch of junk food here but I don't think that's very supportive so I won't.

So stress... Yes, I cracked and had a good cry and stayed in my emotional cocoon for a bit, with my binge foods.

emoticon Now I left my cocoon early yesterday morning, with the goal of picking up my Optifast order and all the business of condo boards, contractors, insurance, hotel/couch surfing, finding personal stuff either packed up in storage by the disaster recovery team or in bags here there and everywhere.... well, they have to wait. I come first. I need to remind myself of this, again and again. I'll get the hang of it :) emoticon emoticon

Here's the good news!
Yes, I picked up my Optifast order! I searched through my construction zone and found my blender and my Optifast approved sweeteners! I am starting today back on Full Fast! I wanted to share this with my Sparkpeeps! I'm excited about the activity on the the Spark Optifast team!

Also, in my short session here on Spark peeps I was also reminded that today is my 6th month anniversary of being smoke free! YAY ME! What's that? you are proud of me too? Then click like so I know emoticon
Okay, I gotta jet, lots to do, and guess what?? We have a couple of days of a heat wave here and my car's a/c just broke so I'm happy that I'm morbidly obese, because excessive sweating is attractive and carting around your personal belongings like you are a walking garage sale is the latest in pop up stores. emoticon

June 30.2013

Jun 29, 2013

June 30.2013 - Since June 20th, I have had hunger pains, lost of my watery BMs, migraines and I'm breaking out in pimples. I've also checked out the Australian website and youtube channel for Optifast and the American site. It's tough to find all the details on the Canadian process for Optifast, so I'm gonna do my best to put all the details here.

First, I found doctor through the Optifast websites. Here is the link for Dr. Peter Goldfarb:  http://www.optifast.ca/  and a quote; " Dr. Peter Goldfarb has been practicing medicine for more than 30-years and has been weight loss coach in Toronto, Canada since 1990."

June 26.2013 - 1st weigh in. Dr. Goldfarb again answered all questions and was apologetic that he was leaving on vacation for a month (he told me this last week) as he liked to be present for his new patients starting Optifast. He was so caring and encouraged me to come in and see his nurses while he is away.

Weight 249.2 lbs.

June 19.2013 - 1st appointment with Dr. Goldfarb. A very nice man and the receptionist and nurse were also very pleasant. He answered all my questions and I went home with a week's worth of Optifast 900 (chocolate).  I asked about the weekly classes with a dietician and fitness expert etc. from another member here on obesityhelp.com. He explained that he no longer does that full program for a number of reasons: the cost for patients is very expensive and not covered by OHIP, he also runs his family practice, he prefers to meet one on one with his patients during their weight loss phase.

We also discussed that I am TERRIFIED of any type of surgery. I always have been and think all individuals getting any of the WLS are so brave. I have had two emergency surgeries in my life and I was relatively healthy and recovering from any surgery is challenging. So I'm paranoid about a planned surgery and have so many health concerns right now I'm going to try to lose my weight with Optifast alone. I have 130 lbs to go.

Weight 256.4 lbs.

May 2013 - got the courage to call Dr. Peter Goldfarb's office to make an appointment.

April 2013 - lots of personal stuff going on. Not fun times. Researched what to do about my morbid obesity.

March 11.2013 - stopped smoking, after 15+ years of heavy smoking. Yay me! Now addressing my weight.
