NickysMom
Hi! I'm Kristen and I was born and raised in southern New Jersey. I have pretty much been overweight my whole life, I would say it probably started when I was about 4 or 5. I have dieted off and on since I was very young (I remember my Mom signing me up for Weight Watchers when I was a pre-teen) and then it just continued from there. The diets have never really worked that well for me. I did lose about 100 pounds one year and then I gained it all back. And last year I lost about 35 pounds and was down below 300 for the first time in my adult life, but I have since gained that back too. Also, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I was 21. I never thought weight loss surgery was for me but I am finally to the point where I know it is exactly what I need. I met with some surgeons in my area last year and did the initial education class and one-on-one visit, but I did not like them at all. Something just did not seem right. Then this year I went to a class hosted by a different surgeon and dietitian and I immediately knew they were the ones for me. That was in July of 2016 and since then I have been going to all kinds of nutrition classes and getting all the clearances/prep done for my surgery. I am hoping to have my surgery in the beginning of 2017. Because of my diabetes and other factors, I have decided to go with RNY instead of the sleeve. I hope I am choosing the right surgery for me. It is currently December 2016 and the last clearance I need is from my endocrinologist... fingers crossed that my a1c has improved!
Update 4/13/17: I had my RNY on 3/6/17 and have lost 40 pounds so far. 15 pre-op and 25 since surgery.
