12 years old, 155lbs and put on a diet. That was the day I became conscious of my size and the yoyo journey began. I felt failure after failure. It was humiliating and embarrassing. Now I see it was a set up for unsustainable success. I was on every diet that was on the market. They got a lot of money from me. From liquid diets to Weight Watchers and Nutrisystems.

I started exploring weight loss surgery in the 90's. At that time there was a lot of negative press. It was cost prohibitive and I wasn't mentally ready. In 2000 I took a serious look at the various surgeries available along with my dear friend. She chose Mexico and I worked on the insurance route for a bariatric procedure in the USA.

My first submission to insurance was rejected. I needed to gain weight in order to qualify. It was an easy task to eat everything I wanted. It was a delightful few months. I gained the weight. With the assistance of support group feedback along with Obesity Help's information I was able to get approved for the surgery.

Food obsession is synonymous with obesity. All I thought about from morning to night was what I could or should not eat. My life was centered around food. I needed something else to focus on. Bariatric surgery was the solution.

My surgeon helped me determine the best procedure for me to lose the most weight. I had a medial Roux N Y gastric bypass. I am now 15 years an obesity survivor and here to be of service to others, whether in process or survivors. There are so many obesity survivors out there that are removed from a support network.

It is my life's mission to help others survive this journey.
