Well this sucks...

Oct 25, 2019

I finally had to bite the bullet and have foot surgery.  (My third surgery in the last six months) I'd been fighting the need for surgery for my plantar fasciitis for a while now and none of the usuall devices, physical therapy or shots were working.  So anyway, I get to the hospital yesterday and i'm starting to wonder if I really need the surgery since (for once) my foot was feeling pretty decent.  I had visions of getting on the table and the doctor opens me up and thinks "I don't know why we're even doing this.  She looks fine." But that's not what happened.  Apparently I had so much scar tissue that none of the usual methods I'd tried were going to work.  She needed to make extra incisions to see just how bad the damage was.  Long story short I'm back and now starting the healing process.  I'm not in any pain meds because I can't take NSAIDs and apparently thanks to some recently discovered liver disease I can't take Tylenot either.  So i'm kind of gimping around trying hard not to take the oxycodone that they docter prescribed because I'm scared to death of getting addicted to it.  Anyone else having issues like this.  I need to know I'm not alone in this weirdness called life after weightloss surgery.

Constipation...?

Sep 18, 2019

Ok so for the last two weeks I have been experiencing a frustrating problem of moving back and forth gaining and losing  the same pound and feeling frustrated.  I counted my calories and stayed on my diet and exercise routine regularly getting more than 15 hours of exercise a week.  Anyway, I just realized this mornign that one of the reasons I have been having such a problme wasn't eating wrong or not getting enough exercise ... it was constipation.  I have been fighting this fight regularly (ahem) since my surgery.  I had to start taking regular fiber in my morning drink to make sure that things are on the move.  Over the last two days things shifted and finally I'm back on track.  Is anyone else having the same problem?  I make sure I get plenty of fluids every day and my diet is still on track but I don't think I get enough fiber to make things move the way they should so I have to augment with suppliments.

three month checkup victory!

Aug 26, 2019

I saw my doctor for my three month checkup today.  Happy to report that they were very happy with my progress so far.  Apparently I surpassd my expected weightloss for this far 0--into my recovery.  I've lost nearly 45% (really 44.5) of my extra weight.  He told me that usually his male patients are at this point not many women in this category.  I have to admit for a minute I felt like a freak but then I decided to embrace it and be thankful that I've gotten this far so fast.  I am a woman on a mission and I am determined to get ride of the rest of my extra weight as soon as physically possible.  47lbs left to go an then it all toning and skin removal.  I have no intention of stopping the good habits I have adopted but I also am looking forward to all the things that I once loved but couldn't do anymore because my weight got in the way.  Amusement parks clear the decks because I'll be on my way pretty soon. Can't wait to ride all those big scary rides without fear of being too big to fit in the seats.

Finally!

Aug 04, 2019

I have finally broken past my tiny plateu and I am now officially under 200lbs.  It was frustrating to be fighting to get that last two pounds off to get to my first weight loss goal but it was so worth it.  I haven't weighed this much in over sixteen years.  I can't believe it.  Every pound lost is like rolling back time and I can't wait to see how much better my life will be when I have my body/ life/ energy health/ etc back.  To all of you reading this that have already reached this goal good for you and keep up the good work.  To all of you just starting your journey it is so worth it.  keep chugging along and i'll see you on the other side cheering you on all the way.  I still have another 54 pounds to loose before i reach my goal weight so I'm going to keep my head down and keep fighting the good fight.  I know the goal is so worth it.

great new find... that others probably already knew about

Jul 18, 2019

Anyone else in love with their grill pan?  I love the fact that I can have grilled meat without having to fire up the barbeque and I still get the great tast without the calories if you use non stick spray instead of butter or oil.  Love it!  Also, lemons and limes pack so much flavor I have been flavoring everything in the juice of one or the other for the past few months along with fresh herbs.  Talk about yum!

Getting excited!

Jul 15, 2019

I'm just a couple of pounds shy of my first weight loss goal and I'm getting pretty excited.  I haven't been down to my current weight in about 18 years.  Can't wait to reach it and then move on to my next goal.  I have 58 pounds more to lose to reach my ultimate goal and that feels pretty great too.  I'm feeling a little sore after a weekend of lots of exercise including rollerskating with my honey on date night but it's all been worth it.

A little side note:  I didn't realize I was burnign so many calories skating.  (upto 600 per hour) We skated for like an hour and a half last night and had so much fun.  Have a great day everyone.

Whew!

Jun 17, 2019

I have finaly been cleared to go back to the gym as long as I stay away from exercises for my stomach.  I'm fine with that and going back was like coming home.  I'd missed it due to not just this WLS but because of emergency gallbladder surgery the month before.  Anyway, I went to the gym two days ago after having lost two pounds in a couple of days but when I weighed myself yesterday I freaked because I had gained a pound despite the fact that I didn't stray from my diet and had actually been twice as active the previous day.  I know it had to due with gaining some muscle but still the scale can't tell the difference and in my head neither could I.  Weight gain was weight gain in my eyes.  Anyway, I stood on the scale today and saw that I'd not only lost that extra pound I'd driven myself crazy over but had also lost another one to go with it making my weekend weightloss a toal of three pounds instead of just two.  Talk about incentive to get my backside back in the gym again today.

9 days post gastric sleeve surgery

Jun 06, 2019

Feeling pretty good today.  I still have some minor pain in my side where my biggest incision is mostly when I get a little too active during the day.  Sticking closely to the liquid diet and working hard to get in all my water.  Taking regular 30 minute walks each day to keep my body moving.  Lost ten pounds so far since surgery and can't wait to see the scale move below 200lbs.  I am hoping that will happen by next month some time.  In the mean time it's back to work.  Those words aren't going to write themselves.

Why didn't anybody tell me!

May 31, 2019

Can we talk gas for a minute? Nobody told me that the gas they give you is a lot different than in a regular laparoscopic surgery.  You are constantly burping and passing gas and sometimes it can be painful and makes you vomit. When I spoke to a nurse practitioner about it she was vague about this and nowhere I've looked online will give me any indication as to how long this will last. Can anyone please shed some light on this subject? My surgery was Tuesday and I'm really uncomfortable. I've tried everything they have recommended but at times it's really bad. Help!!!

Great idea if you are into it...

May 17, 2019

Wanted to post a great idea for distracting yourself from eating.... writing.  As you can tell by my name I'm into romances.  I've even written a few but won't tell you which ones since this is not the place for that.  But anyway, if you are into writing it's a great way to get your feelings out.  I've found it to be very therapeutic.  I even killed my husband off onces when I was angry at him.    He laughs at that.  But whether it's a journal or a short story try it.  It really helps.  I do have to warn you that it can be addicting and there are times when eating, phones, spouses and children can become an irritating distraction if you are really caught up.  Have fun.
