Progress, Not Perfection: Finding Balance on the Road to Surgery

Hi everyone,

I wanted to jump on here today and share a quick reminder that I think a lot of us need to hear from time to time: **it is completely okay not to be perfect.

When you are working toward weight loss surgery, the pressure to have a "flawless" track record can feel incredibly heavy. We are trying to change a lifetime of habits, face down deep addictions, and get our weight down to safely qualify for the tool we need. But real life isn't a straight line, and beating ourselves up over every single choice doesn't help us heal.

To be completely real with you all—today, I got Taco Bell for lunch.

In the past, a choice like that might have made me feel guilty, or like I "blew it" and should just give up for the rest of the week. But today? I’m choosing to look at the big picture and stay positive.

One meal does not erase all the hard work I’ve been putting in. It doesn't erase the miles I’ve been walking while blasting my music, the pages I’ve written in my journal, or the focus I’ve found while building my LEGO sets. A journey to save your life isn't about being 100% perfect every single second; it’s about making sure your good days outnumber the bad ones and always getting right back on track.

"Beating ourselves up over a single choice doesn't help us heal. Real progress is about always getting right back on track."

We are human beings fighting a massive, exhausting battle. If you had a setback today, or if your menu didn't look exactly like a textbook pre-op diet, take a deep breath. Forgive yourself.

Tomorrow is a brand-new day to lace up our sneakers, hit the pavement, and keep moving toward the life we are meant to live for ourselves and our families.

We’ve got this. Keep your chin up and keep fighting!
