Now about the fat me, I've read my story on these board more than a dozen times,
although they were not
written by me. You have all heard the saga with a few variations,
I've been overweight all my life, with the exception of the two times my
multiple diet
attempts were successful??? On nutri-system I lost over 100lbs & actually did radio
commercials for them
& with weight-watchers I lost over 125lbs Of course every time I
lost any weight I gained back more than I lost.

At my highest recorded weight I hit 380 lbs, At my consult with Dr L. August 8th 2008
I weighed 360.7 lbs at 5' 8" tall my BMI was 54.8, I also have significant co-morbidities
Type 2 Diabetes, Major Sleep Apnea, & mild hypertension.
It's Time for a Cool Change.

This is the Story of my quest to get
Out of Country Wieght Loss Surgery.

Originally after seeing
Dr Hutcher on 60 Minutes I thought I wanted
the RNY, . Through a goggle search I found
Diminishing Dawn's blog
which lead me to
Barix & the OH forum. From there I  had a free group
consult  at Barix with
Dr Pop (they were great BTW). With the
old & inaccurate DS description found on OH, I knew for sure that the RNY
was for me
  So I got all the
required OHIP forms filled out, my PCP sent
them in, and in less than a week I was approved for the
OHIP OOC
RNY..

In the mean time I continued to lurk in the Ontario forum devouring every
thread with my insatiable thirst for WLS knowledge, it was time well spent.
DS'ers like
Bruce Jr (ED),
Randy B, Kelly A & Zappre  got me very curious
and occasionally I strayed into the
Dark Side forum  to read about all their
horrific bowel habits,  guess what I found out... I currently have more
bowel issues pre-op, than most DS'ers post-op. Considering that was
major reason I discounted this alternate surgery, that & the fact I LOVE
Food I started
to do more  research, and low and behold,
I changed my mind, thankfully before it was too late.

Now I
had to approach my PCP and discuss this new found revelation,
fortunately for me he was totally receptive,
he signed the new
OHIP form,
he even signed a letter I wrote from his perspective to
OHIP
about the
change of procedure. Two days later I got a call from Barix asking why
they received an agreement cancellation fax.... This worried me a bit

because I didn't want that door closed before the DS door was opened.
In just under two weeks I was  once again OHIP approved, but this time
just for a
Consult only so If Dr Lutrzykowsk thought I was a good
candidate for the DS surgery,I should be approved no problems.

Well I had that
consult on August 8th & received the Final OHIP Approval
last week, my surgery is set for Nov 5th due to my work place commitments.

Dr L wants me to lose 20+ lbs before surgery. I want to lose 40 plus pounds.
As of Labour day I've dropped 20 lbs, but I've seemed to have stalled
there.
I now  decided to do Optifast for a few of weeks.
& have since bought a three
week supply 63 chocolate & 21 vanilla
optifast milkshakes. I'm just going to hold
on it for bit to see if I can lose any more with out that extreme measure.

That's All for Now. I just want Say I'm so glad for the
Ontario Board and all
the helpful posters here, you have all enabled me I find all the info required
to start this journey & live with it long term.

A special thanks To the
DS Renegade Bruce Jr,
for whom without I
probably wouldn't have change my mind. Really, Thank You Ed for the
Kick in the Azz.

Interesting notes:
OHIP agreed to pay Barix & Doctor Pop $27,922 for Open RNY
or $35,747 if performed Lap. while
they agreed to pay
Dr L  $27,900 for Open DS
and $30,400 if
this was a revision from previous WLS. I'm glad to we have
Universal
Health Care
here in Canada & I'm Happy to have the chance to recoup some of the
tax money I give the government
each year. Of course I wish I didn't need this
Surgery in the first place.
